~ Happy 67th Birthday, United States Air Force ~
~ September 18, 2014 ~
Canteen Mission Statement
Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allies' military and family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.
The United States Air Force became a separate military service on September 18, 1947, with the implementation of the National Security Act of 1947. The Act created the National Military Establishment, later renamed the United States Department of Defense, which was composed of three branches, the Army, Navy and a newly created Air Force. Prior to 1947, the responsibility for military aviation was divided between the Army (for land-based operations) and the Navy, for sea-based operations from aircraft carrier and amphibious aircraft.
Curtiss JNB-4 Jenny
The United States Army Air Corps (USAAC) was the predecessor of the U.S. Army Air Forces (USAAF) from 1926-41, which in turn was the forerunner of todays U.S. Air Force (USAF), established on June 21, 1947. Although abolished as an organization in 1941, it existed as a branch subordinate to the USAAF from 1941-47. The Air Corps was created from the Air Service in 1926 largely as a compromise between advocates of a separate air arm and those of the command structure of the United States Army who viewed the aviation arm as an auxiliary branch to support the ground forces. Although its members worked to promote the concept of airpower and an autonomous air force between 1926 and 1941, as a branch of the Army similar to the Signal Corps or Quartermaster Corps, its primary purpose by Army policy remained support. Much as it did a quarter century before, the United States immediately demobilized its armed forces after World War II. Based on the AAF's wartime achievements and future potential, however, the U.S. Air Force won its independence as a full partner with the Army and the Navy on September 18, 1947.
Please remember that The Canteen is here to support and entertain our troops and veterans and their families, and is family friendly.

Love To Tell His Story
Sept 18, 2014
Read: 1 Chronicles 16:7-13
When noted author Studs Terkel was looking for a topic for his next book, one of his friends suggested death. While he was resistant at first, the idea gradually began to take shape, but its voice became all too real when Mr. Terkels wife of 60 years passed away. Now the book was also a personal search: a yearning to know what lies beyond, where his loved one had just gone. Its pages are a poignant reminder of our own search for Jesus and the questions and concerns we have about eternity while we walk our faith journey.
Im thankful for the assurance we can have that we will be with Jesus after we die if we have trusted in Him to forgive our sin. There is no greater hope. It is now our privilege to share that hope with as many as we can. First Peter 3:15 encourages us: . . . always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear. We have the opportunity from God, as David said, to call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples (1 Chron. 16:8).
The stories of so many people we love are not yet ended, and the privilege to tell them about the love of Jesus is a gift most precious.
I love to tell the story; more wonderful it seems
Than all the golden fancies of all our golden dreams.
I love to tell the story, it did so much for me;
And that is just the reason I tell it now to thee. Hankey
Let our days be filled with a longing and the opportunitiesto tell our story of Jesus.
The psalm David sings in 1 Chronicles 16:7-33 seems to be drawn from parts of several different psalms found in the Hebrew psalter. According to The Treasury of Scripture Knowledge, the lyrics of verses 8-22 closely parallel Psalm 105:1-15. In verses 23-33, the song seems to continue with words from Psalm 96, while the remainder of the song (vv.34-36) relates to the ideas expressed in Psalm 106. In this way, Davids song resembles a modern hymn medley, where parts of several songs are combined together to express the singers heart of worship.

Thanks Kathy. 26 of the best years of my life were spent in the Air Force. This ole country boy got to see the world and do some amazing things. Worked with some of the greatest people a fellow could meet. Wish I could go back and do it all over again.

There seemed to be something wrong for quite a while today. I finally realized there were no airplanes. It seemed like 9/11 all over again. SPOOKY!!! I haven’t found out what is going on yet.

I am on my way home with a stop at WalMart.
My Mom fell again this morning. A co-worker went home with me and we got her up and into her chair in the living room (tv, water, phone, etc). I have several things I must do tonight. I’ll be back later.
