A 37-year-old professor and department chair at American University was arrested Thursday and charged with breaking into a building at a shopping mall near campus and setting a small fire, according to D.C. police.
David Pitts, chair of the Department of Public Administration and Policy, was being detained pending his initial appearance in D.C. Superior Court on Friday. He was charged with burglary and destruction of property.

I have to admit, I have a daughter that applied to go there. When the financial package came, not only did they ask about my income, but also wanted to know my mortgage, how much my house was worth, and how much I had in 401K. Never responded and never had any other college ask those kinds of questions.

The first question that needs to be asked in this situation, is “Did the arresting police act stupidly?”. Maybe a beer summit could smooth things over, along with a History Channel contract for the professor to do meaningless narratives for inaccurate documentaries on subjects of great importance.

My daughter lived in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania for several years, and right behind her house was a campus of American University, whose website is the same as American College. The campus was nice, with some very impressive buildings, and a very nice park where we often took walks. I can’t recall, however, ever seeing any sign that the buildings or campus were occupied, nor do I ever recall seeing any students there.
