'THE look on their faces was priceless.
Americas NBA superstars paused from their warm-ups to stand and face their New Zealand opponents as they performed the haka at the Basketball World Cup overnight.
And judging by their reactions, the USA team had never seen anything like it.
Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose was stunned. Former NBA MVP Derrick Rose appeared dazed.
James Harden, the Houston Rockets star who recently ridiculously claimed hes the best player in the game, looked lost.
And Denver Nuggets forward Kenneth The Manimal Farieds little What on Earth is going on? glance from left to right said it all, without saying anything at all.
Unfortunately for the Tall Blacks, the haka did little to halt the Americans power on the court, as the US outmuscled its overmatched opponent 98-71.'

You don't have to like rap (I don't) to recognize that it has cultural significance to a lot of people. Not sure why you would argue that it doesn't.
do you still moon your opponents before battle? ala William Wallace... as portrayed by the short Jew hater? :-)
“not sure why they were surprised. seen any music videos lately??”
You’re right. This is the second article I’ve seen on this with they “They were mesmerized” theme and I’m just not buying it. I watched the video too. The U.S. respectfully watched the display and then applauded. Then they crushed the New Zealand team by 27 points. Ens of story.
I will acknowledge Rap only as a sub-sub culture of little value other than a collection of people that have nothing else to aspire to.
They DID look a bit bemused.
Most of them probably don’t know anything about NZ and even less about the Haka.
Nah, might be an idea though, lol.
Plus each player probably makes more money in one night, than the entire NZ team makes in a year.

Maybe in rugby, but soccer not so much. How did the Champions League go this year. Even Scotsman Craig Burley agrees that Scottish football is the pits at present.
“If I had to take hell, I would use the Australians to take it and the New Zealanders to hold it.” -Erwin Rommel.
I meant the national team, which is progressing under Gordon Strachan.
The article puts the lie to the headline, I think. According to the article the American team knew in advance that the NZ team would be performing the Haka, knew what it was and formed up on the court to “receive” the Haka. The video even shows them walking over to shake hands after.
Unlike those subjects, I am armed. Save your flowers for those who will need them.
both rap and the haka help define a culture. the quality of that culture is not part of the present discussion.
Firstly, they and we aren’t subjects, common mistake despite having a monarch. Also, the Kiwis are armed.

(honestly, the ignorance on FR from Americans about other countries does depress me)
Secondly, thanks for making my point. You wouldn’t go toe to toe with them without a gun. I’d love to see you match them with just you. No weapon.

Oh, a little guy. Good luck.
I notice you’re picking a fight for someone else. Is that common in your little part of the world? Is that what passes for courage there?
Good, then you don’t need a gun. Neither does this 5’11 210p ex-Para Scotsman with a rugby players build and a short temper. LOL.
I notice you’ve accepted you were wrong on the first two parts.
