Egyptian feminist Aliaa Magda Elmahdy, 23, challenges the strict nature of Islam on her blog and Facebook pages. She went a step further in her protest against the Islamic State (IS) with a photo of Elmahdy and a veiled woman pooping and menstruating on the black IS flag.
Arab nations did not print the photo because the flag states there is no God but Allah. Elmahdy did not explain why she took the photo, but she protests Islamic laws, and IS implements strict Sharia Law. Women must wear full veils and not leave the house without a male relative. The jihadists have even forced shopkeepers to fully veil all mannequins. In Raqqa, Syria, an Islamic State stronghold, a crowd stoned two women to death for allegedly committing adultery.
The majority of Muslims do not agree with IS. Several prominent Muslim leaders and scholars have condemned the terrorist group. However, not everyone agreed with Elmahdys photo, including fellow liberal Muslims.
In 2011, she caused outrage among strict and liberal Muslims when she posed nude in photos on her Facebook. She claimed the photos scream against a society of violence, racism, sexism, sexual harassment and hypocrisy. The secular Muslims did not agree.
This hurts the entire secular current in front of those calling themselves the people of virtue, said secularist Sayyed el-Qimni. "It's is a double disaster. Because I am liberal and I believe in the right of personal freedom, I can't interfere."

ISIS people are the same ones that Obama and McCain called Freedom Fighters back in Syria and wanted to supply with more US military equipment.
Every time I experience the Godly care of a man, living out the sacrificial love that Jesus has for all of us, I think of women stuck in the prison of Islam and pray with all my heart for them. I have been so very, very blessed, and I wish I could help those women to have a taste of real freedom - the freedom of a God who loves them unconditionally and suffered every punishment they could ever deserve, because He loves them and is willing to die to set them free.
I have no stones to throw at these women. I wish so badly that I could help them.
Western feminazis won’t care until she tells the world she has to buy her own birth control
If there is a protestant Muslim movement, and I hope there is, it will most likely be led by women.
You know, I share her sentiment concerning the flag, but that’s just the grossest thing I’ve ever seen. Sorry, no points from me.
The woman in the Bible put perfume on Jesus’ feet; she didn’t poop on them. There’s no comparison to be made here.
The first section deals with abrogation - the concept that newer revelation replaces, overrides, or supersedes older revelation. The difficulty in applying this concept to the Qur'an is that you must be certain of the chronological sequence of the Qur'anic suras. This is NOT the order of the suras in most Qur'ans.
The third section deals with taqqya - the concept that deception may be used with infidels or other outsiders in order to further the goals of Islam.
The comparison is Jesus seeing a person’s heart where others see only the seeming stupidity or immorality of an action they don’t understand or like.
Jesus could have kept His respectability and been admired by everybody. But I would be condemned then, and He shed His own “respectability” to save me. Incomprehensible but beautiful beyond any other thing in this world. Love that goes out on a limb. Literally.
What she did is gross. WHY a person does something sometimes trumps the way the thing appears on the surface. That’s what I’m saying. It was certainly true of Jesus, and Jesus treated other people with the wisdom of understanding.
See her heart? She describes herself as a liberal feminist and an atheist. There’s her heart right there. The Jesus comparisons are nonsensical, and I’m at a loss to understand why you keep bringing them up.
The chick likes to get naked and grab attention. Yeah, she’s against Islam-—great, good for her. But it seems she might also be right at home as a member of Code Pink.
IF I had to choose between the abusive demon of Islam and atheism I’d choose atheism too. Even better than either is the real God, who doesn’t write people off because of labels like “liberal feminist” and “atheist”. He loves and died for us all, and if liberal feminist atheists truly understood that they might turn to the truth. Might find that the freedom they so strongly desire looks different than they’ve always thought.
If she hadn’t stepped outside of “respectability”, would we even know anybody was fighting against Islam on behalf of women? Who do we know of who is fighting Islam on behalf of women? Hillary? Huma? NOW? Jane Fonda? They’re doing worse than nothing.
What “respectable” way is there to fight against Islam on behalf of women? What way for the women who are stuck in it, and what way for those of us who are outside of it and have more options (that we’re generally not using)? Maybe if we walked a mile in desperate moccasins we might have a different view of what she did.
On one hand, I’m firmly in favor of trolling the Jihad. On the other hand, what has been seen can never be unseen. So three cheers for the young lady, but I am not clicking on that link.
A reasonable response. Good for you!
I wasn’t freaking out before, just disgusted. Has nothing to do with sexuality or “teehee”, but the affinity that feminists (& their cohorts) have for “shock value”. It is almost always crass, addle-brained, gratuitous, & utterly pointLESS.
I am freaking out a little bit that you would somehow compare this person to Mary Magdalene. (I must be missing something. I’ve read what you wrote, twice. This doesn’t sound like something you’d say, in my mind)
Exactly, Geron. The women in my family looked at them with amusement when they first appeared. I can’t stand them- literally to the point of hate. They have done SO much damage to our society & they’re not done.
If you mean "protestant" as in the Christian reformation movements of Luther and Calvin... your hopes are misplaced. Because the Christian Reformation was a movement to return Christianity to the roots (values, practices, etc..) of its founder - Christ.
A Muslim Reformation movement would be seeking to return Islam to the roots (values, practiced, etc..) of its founder - Mohammad.
Oh, wait!!! Al Qaeda, ISIS, Hamas, Hezbollah... are all doing just that - returning Islam to the Jihad of Mohammad.
Worldwide Islamic Terrorism is the Muslim protestant/reformation movement.
Wise choice.
If Muslim men see women as lower than dogs then these women just proved them right.
bump
Who said those were her only options?
They'll get you to the same eventual destination, you know.
" Even better than either is the real God, who doesnt write people off because of labels like liberal feminist and atheist. He loves and died for us all, and if liberal feminist atheists truly understood that they might turn to the truth."
Oh, so I "wrote her off" by stating what she is, huh?
Am I to conclude that you never comment on atheistic feminists, then, because that would be "writing them off?" Unless they poop on a flag, which for some unfathomable reason invites comparisons to Jesus.
" Might find that the freedom they so strongly desire looks different than theyve always thought."
I agree with you there.
"If she hadnt stepped outside of respectability, would we even know anybody was fighting against Islam on behalf of women? Who do we know of who is fighting Islam on behalf of women? Hillary? Huma? NOW? Jane Fonda? Theyre doing worse than nothing.
What this woman did amounts to no more. She's an exhibitionist who gets off on this kind of thing, plain and simple.
"What respectable way is there to fight against Islam on behalf of women? What way for the women who are stuck in it, and what way for those of us who are outside of it and have more options (that were generally not using)? Maybe if we walked a mile in desperate moccasins we might have a different view of what she did."
Well, the chick isn't exactly "stuck" in Islam; she received asylum in Sweden. Crapping on flags isn't "fighting", Butter. Like I said, I share her sentiment, but geez, have some dignity.
If every Muslim woman on the planet followed her lead, what do you think it would avail them? These bloodthirsty Islamic savages are in need of killing---not publicity stunts.
In the US, I would agree. And who knows, maybe that’s what this gal is too. But her situation is totally different than American feminists’ situation.
How has the “Master, can I please say something now?” approach of the last 15 or so centuries worked for Muslim women? If insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results, then how are any of these Muslim women who stay in their burquas and get stoned to death or honor-killed if they dare to think an independent thought ever going to have a life beyond insanity? Are those their only 2 choices - to be insane (and enslaved), or to be crass “shock value” peddlers?
Desperate people do desperate things. What is the “right” way for these women to reject the pedophile demon-god of Islam?
My comparison wasn’t really between Mary Magdalene and this woman, but a look at Jesus Himself, and how He responded to things that His disciples were shocked and offended by. Jesus sees the heart. He knows where we’ve been and where we are, and He stays with us anyway. He goes out on a limb for us, even when we stupidly deserve nothing but trouble and it costs Him not only His life but His “respectability” as well.
Paul was such an attention freak and so deceived that he actually killed Christians, but God didn’t give up on him. God re-directed Paul’s passion by giving him Jesus’ passion.
I guess what I’m realizing is that there’s a whole lot of ugly that we can look at. There are a whole lot of reasons to distrust and be disgusted. There’s a lot of darkness and coldness. To me the one bright ray is Jesus, and He acted a lot differently than His people sometimes do. He doesn’t snuff out the dimly-burning wick. Mary Magdalene was a confused, tormented prostitute when Jesus found her. He went out on a limb for her.
Maybe we’re misunderstanding this woman or maybe we’re not. But I do fear that we’re misunderstanding Jesus. Seems like He was drawn to the people that nobody else liked, those who were downtrodden and hopeless. Seems like He did extreme things to win back His people - like tell His prophet to marry a prostitute who would cheat on him again and again.
Somehow when I think about the way Jesus actually lived His life on earth, and the whole history of God’s relationship with Israel, I just don’t feel like throwing any rocks at this woman or any of the women who have been given a life so much harder than I’ve ever had to even ponder.
That’s what I’m saying.
And so would wearing their burquas.
What are these women supposed to do? How are they supposed to give their sons and daughters a chance at something besides a god who hates and abuses them at every opportunity, where there’s no love, no hope, no joy, nothing worth living for?
If you cared about the fate of these people and were in her shoes in Egypt, what would you do? Would it be effective? You’re disgusted by what she did; now tell us what you would do instead.
