True.

One hardly ever hears a report of a gruntled person going on a shooting rampage.

I think that the last time was sometime in the 50s, after WWII and Korea. I think they finally had accumulated enough incidents of bored, pissed off, stupid, and criminal servicemen who initiated shootings. In WWII infantrymen generally carried their rifles from training to the next training base and then embarkation. They didn’t carry ammo and generally didn’t have the time, ammunition, or the money to get into too much trouble and they didn’t get to carry the rifle on the few liberties they were allowed. During the 50s they stopped doing that, I’m not sure when.

Boredom and stupidity along with a loaded weapon can be problematic. Just last year there was a Russian roulette death in the apartment of some security police airman. In about 1972 two of the gate guards I knew at my Marine Corps installation were bored in the middle of the night and were playing quick draw. At some point, they drew and there was a loud noise. One looked at his pistol and asked what that noise was and the other was holding his side yelling you shot me you sonofabitch. Both were subject to some inconvenient consequences. I witnessed other incidents of people who were drunk, some sober, who were pissed about something or at someone who tried to retrieve their personal weapons from the armory. The one who did manage to get a weapon had to be jumped and disarmed and it was fortunate nobody but him got hurt (severe beatdown).

I spent a career in the military and if they allowed open carry of personal and duty weapons outside of duty there would be more of these incidents.

The story is that she was trying to commit suicide. The unasked and unanswered question is whether her ‘suicide’ was a solo act or one intended to take out others around her.

“All personnel enact active shooter protocols immediately.”

Obama Administration Translation: Bend over and kiss your butt goodbye!

I was on active duty during the Reagan era and we periodically had terrorist threats made against the HQ at 9th ID. The response was always the same. Every commissioned officer (01 thru 08) and noncommissioned officer (E-6 and above) working in the Division HQ was to go to the HHC arms room, draw their sidearm and a full magazine of live ammo and report to work. If the opportune time came at work to use it, you were expected to do so in an accurate and timely manner. Before leaving for the day, you were to return said weapon and ammo to the arms room.

Well, Fort Hood was a combat arms post, but I'll bet the guys at Fort Bragg and Fort Benning are all saying to themselves WHY NOT US??? Because the folks at those posts, more than nearly any other -- all understand and internalize the fact that WAR is really an acronym:

W
Are
Ready!

Sure we all prefer that they'd be armed and ready to squeeze triggers the moment hostilities begin on post, but those posts are also where the schools (and cadre) are for some of the elite units: Ranger/airborne etc. There are plenty of folks who will know where to secure some sort of weapon and use it effectively, immediately and without remorse.

My dad was in the Army at Fort Lee and I was born at the Fort Lee army hospital. This kind of thing didn’t happen in 1954.

As soon as he got out of the Army we moved back to Tennessee and I have never seen where I was born. I have heard that I’m not missing much.

If she barricaded herself then more than likely she was just plain trying for a very publicly noted suicide.

I doubt she is Moslem.

Besides, this is not Moslem MO. They prefer truly efficient killing - bombs.

14 years? I bet she was going for 20. I also bet she was cut in the last round of RIF.

Probably not moslem, I agree.
Probably suicide, although, women generally don’t commit suicide using guns. PTSD perhaps? RIFfed perhaps? Personal problems perhaps? We might never really know.

The world has changed so much when our first thoughts are moslems rampaging.

- It’s great that Obama & Holder have so quickly charged, tried, and executed the two crazy Muslims from Fort Hood #1 and Fort Hood #2 massacres. . .

Ft Lee has grown a lot the last 10 years. They were talking about reducing it’s size about that time but it worked out they increased its size and added a lot of buildings.

I would like to go there some day to see it since I have never actually seen where I was born. I was still a baby when Dad was discharged and we moved.

Its pretty sad when we got an Army that is soo poorly disciplined and equpeted that they they can’t even maintain order over their own bases with the population of their own choosing and screening.

Soldures are suppose to be able to handle guns, and react at a moment’s notice to threats. If every man at that fort is not so equipment and ready to defend his home then how can he be trusted to be ready for battle?

My father was at Fort Lee in from the summer of 1961 until about October of 1963. He was a computer programmer, and was involved in the commissioning of the SAGE air-defense node located on that base. It was located in a very recognizable building: a large concrete cube about six stories high on the outside (and somewhat less than six stories high on the inside).

We lived in Petersburg. I attended first grade in the Dinwiddie County public school. I went to a Catholic school for second grade, and a week or two of third.

I would love to make a trip to Petersburg. I probably should since I’m not really that far away. Dad was there for two years and hated every minute of the Army. LOL Back then men felt it was their duty to enlist, no matter what. It was hard but it made men out of them.
