The governing body of one New Jersey town voted in favor of renaming the local Kennedy Center after the current White House head and calling it the Barack Obama Center and some residents arent exactly happy.
Philly.com reported that the renaming came at the request of Willingboro Township Mayor Jacqueline Jennings, after she recalled how the black population in the region reacted with excitement at the campaign and election of Mr. Obama.
I think that people have a sense of pride about him, she told Philly.com. We had so many new people register to vote, people who had never voted before, people who were disenfranchised. All of a sudden, we had people wrapping around the buildings when the polls opened. It was a sense of history. Everybody wanted to be a part of it.
But plenty of local residents are upset at the town councils name change.

As imperfect as JFK surely was Osama Obama isn't fit to shine his shoes (no pun intended).
JFK is responsible for most of our current immigration mess.
I had wondered what happened to Levittown. I did not know they changed it to Willingboro. As I remember it the various Levittowns that were built served a good purpose.
Nope...that would be LBJ and Teddy.
OH wow, I thought that was another view of that obama center in Jersey...lol I thought, “man I’m going to have to apologize for jumping to a conclusion” lol
Lots and lots of Amish in my neighborhood too.... but their vehicles don’t have spinning rims or duct tape holding them together.... lol Families, professionals for the most part, and the kids don’t look like hoodrats either
That’s a good one!
I've driven through Amish country...I kind of admire those people. They certainly stick to their principles. But I've heard that some of them can party like it's 1699!
We are talking about a different “amish” - and yes, those people do stick to their principles and beliefs! Love the “party like its 1699” reference!
John F. Kennedy, a native-born, U.S. Navy WW2 veteran, had enough guts to stand up to Soviet Russia, provide the impetus to put a man on the moon within the decader, and is still seen as a hero being constantly denegrated by ‘the new media’.
What foreign stand of guts has this creep obama done?
He has turned NASA into a ‘hand holding kumbaya with Abdul a bulbul Amir’ agency.
He campaigned on “getting out of Iraq”. What about that?
He whines because another real man, Bibi Nethanyahu, has a higher poll rating than he.
So, Kennedy, a real man, is being replaced by a mulatto queer.
Immigration Reform was JFK’s baby and his assassination assured it was going to go through.
It wasn't JFK's "baby" but I guess it could be said that his assignation did help it along.LBJ,as President, and Teddy,as a Kennedy, enjoyed *enormous* good will in the months after the assassination. In that sense one could argue that JFK deserves some of the blame.
It was JFK who devoted so much of his life to creating the immigration situation, at some point you need to accept that.
JFK worked tirelessly through the 1950s and his presidency to replace the Americans with this immigration, and it passed upon his death.
However, if there is one man who can take the most credit for the 1965 act, it is John F. Kennedy. Kennedy seems to have inherited the resentment his father Joseph felt as an outsider in Bostons WASP aristocracy. He voted against the McCarran-Walter Act of 1952, and supported various refugee acts throughout the 1950s.
In 1958 he wrote a book, A Nation of Immigrants, which attacked the quota system as illogical and without purpose, and the book served as Kennedys blueprint for immigration reform after he became president in 1960.
In the summer of 1963, Kennedy sent Congress a proposal calling for the elimination of the national origins quota system. He wanted immigrants admitted on the basis of family reunification and needed skills, without regard to national origin.
After his assassination in November, his brother Robert took up the cause of immigration reform, calling it JFKs legacy. In the forward to a revised edition of A Nation of Immigrants, issued in 1964 to gain support for the new law, he wrote, I know of no cause which President Kennedy championed more warmly than the improvement of our immigration policies. Sold as a memorial to JFK, there was very little opposition to what became known as the Immigration Act of 1965.
Feasterville! Used to be a really sweet Lionel Electric Train place there.
I am neither from Willingboro or over 60, but I know 40-somethings born in Willingboro who would not be caught dead there, for fear of literally being caught dead there.
I hear ya. Of course it didn’t help when Bush plucked Clinton out of relative obscurity to join his dad in the relief campaign for the victims of the tidal wave disaster year back.
Talk about an idiot’s move. Bush really was a clueless wonder.
I agree that Obama will be rehabbed. He’ll come out smelling (like a rose). (unfortunately) In the propagandist press and history books.
