The governing body of one New Jersey town voted in favor of renaming the local Kennedy Center after the current White House head and calling it the Barack Obama Center and some residents arent exactly happy.
Philly.com reported that the renaming came at the request of Willingboro Township Mayor Jacqueline Jennings, after she recalled how the black population in the region reacted with excitement at the campaign and election of Mr. Obama.
I think that people have a sense of pride about him, she told Philly.com. We had so many new people register to vote, people who had never voted before, people who were disenfranchised. All of a sudden, we had people wrapping around the buildings when the polls opened. It was a sense of history. Everybody wanted to be a part of it.
But plenty of local residents are upset at the town councils name change.

There’s plenty to criticize Kennedy about. The man did serve in our military. He did keep nukes out of Cuba. If I were to try to compare him to Obama, he’d practically look like a saint, which he certainly wasn’t.
What has Obama done to merit the Kennedy Center being named after him? For that matter, what did Kennedy do? Still, Kennedy was killed in office and I believe it’s reasoned to have things named after him.
Obama? This should be filed five folders deep inside one named “Absurd” each with the name “Even More Absurd.”
This started out with him not even being Senate Material, and I’m talking Illinois here.
Then it was absurd that he would be Senate Material.
Then it was absurd that he would be considered Presidential Material.
Then it became comical with him being given the Nobel after the election.
All the way along, he has found a new way to diminish himself the office he serves in, and the nation. Now they wish to ensconce his name on the property.
I say go for it. Let this albatross hang around their neck.
They will wind up the laughing stock of the nation.
Went and looked at the vid. Kept it on mute. There were a lot of non-Amish in that vid. I’d say no.
Someone may already have posted this, but I say stop going to the center if you don’t like it.
Let his new enfranchised “Knock out Gamers” and his “Flash Mob Boys” support the place.
Waaaayyyy back in 1973 we lived in Willingboro, when it was named Levittown.
The houses had 1/4 inch drywall in them. We had six children, four of them boys. Lots of holes in those walls before we moved.
For those of us that live in the real world yes they will be the butt of jokes.
But for many they will be lining up to follow in their foot steps
I wish it were not true but I am sure that it will prove to be the truth.
There are just way too many willing to ignore the truth about this man and paper over all of this man faults with the pulp fiction of his accomplishments.
Just as Clinton rides the wave of accomplishments forced upon him by a Republican congress Obama will ride a upon of a falsified reputation.
Levittown... once know as “The great white ghetto”.
You give many of them far too much credit. They voted for Obama BECAUSE HE IS (half) BLACK (they are happy to forget about the white half). If Jeffrey Dahmer was black, and had run for president, these same people would have voted for him even AFTER they found out that he'd been murdering and eating his victims.
How many times did Marion Barry win his mayoral elections in DC?
They could name it Chavez Center in honor of who will soon replace them
4 terms as mayor
I think he’s now in his 3rd or 4th term as city council
Willingboro is almost 75% African-American.
An original Levittown provided affordable* housing in the 50s. The first AA residents were professionals and well paid workers fleeing Camden, Trenton and Philly. Then came the white flight and as values dropped, absentee owners, rentals and a population shift. You know the rest.
*Affordable, not subsidized, the new meaning for affordable.
If you are from or live in Willingboro, and over 60 or so, I’d be interested to know if you think my analysis is accurate.
Just call it the ‘National Sewer’ and please everyone.
Mostly Liberals ever perform or are honored there!
Oops! I’ll immediately change the sign to read “Mooch-elle”.
Actually, I think Feasterville, and Bensalem have Levittown beat.
Just rename it the Karl Marx Center and be done with it.
This is Willingboro's Mayor, Jacqueline Jennings and the renaming was her idea. I am not a black woman but if I were, I could think of other black men and women who would be more deserving of such an honor. Heck, if I were a black woman, I'd be even angrier with Obama then I am as a Caucasian woman.
And he would have been right to do so.
