The Federal Aviation Administration is telling U.S. airlines they are prohibited from flying to the Tel Aviv airport in Israel after a Hamas rocket exploded nearby.
The FAA said in a statement that the ban on flights is for 24 hours beginning at 12:15 p.m. EST on Tuesday.

Yes, a Delta flight was half way across the Mediterranean sea when it turned and went to Paris Charles de Gaulle.
This is unbelievable!
I wonder if travel insurance will pay out in these circumastances. Imagine paying a boat load of money to go to Israel and thanks to Hamas no trip.
>>What happens if a plane is alread en route to Tel Aviv? Turn around?<<
There are none. All the flights going to Tel Aviv have alreay landed and there are non (not even El Al) in flight.

Choose Airport and TVL (Tel Aviv’s airport code).

7:41 P.M. The FAA prohibits all U.S. airlines from flying to and from Ben-Gurion International Airport “for a period of up to 24 hours.”
5:57 P.M. Delta Airlines and U.S. Airways suspend flights to and from Israel on Tuesday. This follows a warning from the Federal Aviation Authority given after a rocket fell earlier Tuesday in Yehud, near Ben-Gurion International Airport. United Airlines announced it will continue operating as usual.
A Delta Airlines flight from New York to Israel landed in Paris following the decision. U.S. Air has relocated planes currently at Ben-Gurion airport tonight’s planned flight has been canceled. (Zohar Blumenkrantz)
It would be diverted to another airport.

Highly unlikely. Almost all (maybe all) flight insurance excludes war, insurrection, civil unrest and about 100 more synonyms for fighting.
So, now Gaza can be destroyed. There is justifiable cause to destroy all that is there to cause the rockets to cease.
This is the equivalent of closing the war memorials on the mall.
No doubt misguided State Delartment pressure to compel Israel to accept Kerry’s cease fire on Hamas’s terms.
The noose would be too good for our POS president and his turd-worthy Secretary of State.
I can’t really blame their decision to do this..El Al is the ONLY airline with detection for an incoming rocket. I don’t know why other airliners don’t have this capability..that is why from LA to Israel we ONLY fly El Al..its the only way to fly :-)
I don’t know if this decision has a US political component, but, regardless, Israel should now obliterate any Palestinian location with the ability to reach Tel Aviv airport. (Maybe they could pick up Kerry while they are at it and drop him in the Gaza Strip so he can see first hand who he is trying to save.)
Smells like the work of Valerie Jarrett
Rather worry about another missle to plane shoot down just last week.
This will just make Israel more angry and determined to take out the rat nest called Gaza.
