BRUSSELS — Defense and intelligence officials told senators at a classified briefing on Wednesday that they kept secret from Congress the pending swap of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl for five Taliban prisoners because they feared for his life if the deal became public, a senior administration official said Thursday.
“The Senators were told, separate and apart from Sgt. Bergdahl’s apparent deterioration in health, that we had both specific and general indications that Sgt. Bergdahl’s recovery — and potentially his life — could be jeopardized if the detainee exchange proceedings were disclosed or derailed,” the official said in a statement.
Several senators said Thursday that officials in the classified briefing justified the president’s decision to swap Sergeant Bergdahl for the Taliban prisoners by suggesting that quick action was needed to save his life.

This administration is testing us by seeing just how much they can do and how much they can lie, while we sit quietly, fearing the dreaded “racist” claims that would come from an attempt to impeach this POSPOTUS.
They’re probably amazed at how much they’ve gotten away with.

“The difference with Bergdahl, as Obama argues, is that he wasn’t really a hostage grabbed by terrorists. He pretty neatly fit the classic definition of a prisoner of war.”
So they aren’t terrorists...ok.
Just your average run of the mill guardian of a prisoner who allegedly threatened to murder him.
They can’t have it both ways.
To trade a prisoner, based on blackmail, actually makes the story even worse.

While they were prepared for some political blowback, Obama administration officials said they felt the outcry would have been fiercer if in six months’ time, as the United States wraps up its mission in Afghanistan, it emerged that Obama had missed an opportunity to secure Bergdahl’s freedom.
They are floating this trial balloon to see if anyone believes that they just HAD to release 5 terrorists to get back one traitor. The Taliban had him for 5 years, they weren’t going to kill the only card they had.
