A comparison of voting patterns in presidential elections across counties over the last three decades shows that mass immigration has caused a steady drop in presidential Republican vote shares, particularly in the nations largest counties, James G. Gimpel writes in a new Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) report out Tuesday morning. Each one percentage-point increase in the immigrant share of a large countys population reduces the Republican share of the two-party vote by nearly 0.6 percentage points on average.
Gimpel cites three key conclusions that come from his 14-page analysis. First, the enormous flow of legal immigrants into Americanearly 30 million have come to America from 1980 to 2012has remade and continues to remake the nations electorate in favor of the Democratic Party.
Second, Gimpel writes, the partisan impact of said immigration increases is relatively uniform throughout the country. He argues that Texas has been hit on the same ratio as Florida or even California, even though local Republican parties have taken different positions on illegal immigration.
Specifically, for instance, Republican parties in Texas are much tougher on illegal immigration than those in Californiabut suffer the same drastic political consequences that benefit Democrats when legal immigration is increased.
The decline does not seem to vary with the local Republican Partys position on illegal immigration, Gimpel states, concluding that Republicans must deal with the tough issue of opposing a massive increase in legal immigration, rather than just opposing the easy-to-fight illegal immigration issue.

The GOP leadership has no wish to remain a conservative leaning party. They’d rather push the electorate to the left and move leftward with it.
I don’t care about the GOP. It (GOPe) probably needs destroying.
What’s at stake is conservatism and America, which infinite illegal immigration will destroy. I do care to protect against that.
The problem (and deleterious impact) of LEGAL Immigration PALES in comparison to the fool-hardy, traitorous attempt by people in our own party to provide Amnesty for the millions of Undocumented Democrats in this country today.
The Amnesty proposals by both Rand Paul and Marco Rubio would utterly destroy this nation if implemented by flooding the states with millions of instant Democrat voters. Marco Rubio’s plan would do it immediately, Rand Paul’s would take longer since he “Legalizes” the illegals.
It doesn’t matter how it is done, or with what speed it is done, it is a traitorous action by whomever attempts it as it will destroy our nation. Too bad so many politicians are so willing to put their own political ambitions above the health and welfare, and very life of our nation.
The fact is ... we are FULL!
Put up a no vacancy sign on all the borders, because we don't have the resources to feed and care for the ones we have here now much less the 100’s of millions who would come here if given the chance.
“Whats at stake is conservatism and America, which infinite illegal immigration will destroy. I do care to protect against that.”
Agreed except infinity LEGAL immigration is also bad. If we want to preserve American culture, like our love for liberty, then we can’t keep importing people who love socialism. It’s as simple as that, and it doesn’t matter whether that importation is legal or illegal.
I should add that Democrats don’t hide the fact that they want to fundamentally change the USA, and they’re not stupid. They may be foolish (because the brave new world they want to create won’t work), but they know what they’re doing, and high immigration serves those purposes nicely.
just deporting their parents wont solve the issue.
Those kids are already here, and already are US citizens and I don't know what to do about it.
The first thing the libs do with legal immigrants is find ways to get them on the dole. This turns them into dim voters right from the start. Not being a citizen doesn’t seem to be an barrier to voting so...
Article title needs changing...it’s not the “GOP”...it’s America that is being destroyed
Already has in many areas of this country. Dems knew it would.
Howard county Maryland (~ SW of Baltimore) will NEVER elect a Republican congressman or POTUS again.
GOP/conservative *thinkers* used to claim that working immigrants with great paying jobs and married with traditional families were automatic conservatives voting against Dems. Think again.
The Presidency is already unreachable for the GOP, largely because of demographic shifts. The GOP-e’s clinging to the mistaken belief they’ll garner a larger share of the hispanic vote by backing amnesty is pure folly. It only hastens permanent domination by the dems.
We occasionally hear this tripe from McCain, Grahamnesty, Rubio, Ryan regarding illegals, even though they (illegals) don't even have the incomes.....
The tragedy is that the Left's steady stream of vitriol equating any effort to retain traditional American culture with hatred & bigotry has worked to confuse even most Conservatives, so that it has become a taboo subject to look at potential immigrants from the standpoint of that preservation.
Of course it is neither hateful nor bigoted for any people to want to preserve their own cultural heritage in their own lands. Nor is it hateful or bigoted for people to identify with those with whom their family have shared a common heritage, down through the generations. Unfortunately, most folk simply will not calmly sit down & think about that. They have been conditioned to be "gun shy" over even a calm discussion of the questions involved.
Hence, for example, the parting of the Heritage Foundation with a bright young Conservative intellectual, Jason Richwine, over just such a consideration.
America, in any recognizable form, is going to die as an entity, unless more of us wake up to the reality involved.

I don’t think folks should be looking at it from how someone may vote. To me it is all about who is in the front of the line, filling in the paperwork and coming in legally while we have all these others just getting in because the butted into the line. I just don’t think that is right and to me that is the big issue.
Large numbers of illegals will not be deported. If America didn't have the spine to deport illegals when their numbers were 2-3 million, it sure as hell won't, now that illegals have grown past 20 million.
They don't need it. That's what the taxes of working Americans are for.
Not in favor of illegal immigration. If they do it the right way, more power to them. Irish, Italians, Germans, and many more did the same.
You beat me. I was gonna state........I would make the argument that legal and illegal immigration has already destroyed the Republican party.
Ditto for all of California, the Northeast, etc. That's why, with every passing Presidential election, the dems start Election Day with more guaranteed electoral votes than the previous one.
“...used to claim that working immigrants with great paying jobs and married with traditional families were automatic conservatives voting against Dems....”
Nope.
They’re “la raza” first, democrats second, and everything else a far distant third.
Like we always knew they would be.
