I doesn’t have to be liquid. If you actually metabolized all the nicotine in half a pack of smokes it’ll kill you. It’s pretty heavy duty stuff, just not easy to get large quantities in your system.

Nicotine is a known pesticide.

How toxic the nicotine liquid is would depend upon the concentration of nicotine in the liquid. For centuries, gardeners have used home-made mixtures of tobacco and water as a natural pesticide to kill insect pests.

Nicotine's been used as an insecticide for over a century.

It's been used as an instrument of murder for at least as long.

One true-crime story (mid-1800s) I read pointed out that it's an alkaloid, and does a number on the esophageal membranes, clearly indicating poisoning.

One of Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot mysteries features a series of murders in which the victims were poisoned by nicotine in their cocktails.

Sounds like a legitimate product safety concern to me. Nicotine is a powerful toxin, but previously concentrated nicotine extracts were not something one was likely to come in contact with. Needless to say they need to be kept out of the reach of children.

• They release vapor into the air so they should be banned from public places just like Tobacco.
• They contain nicotine and are therefore addictive, and should be subject to the same age restrictions as tobacco.
• According to this article there are safety issues with liquid nicotine that didn't exist with normal tobacco. They need to figure out how to child proof it. That will cost a little money but small in the big scheme of things.
• E-vapors are currently believed to be healther than traditional tobacco and tobacco users should be encouraged to switch. But it's still an addictive substance with health ramifications and non-smokers should be encouraged not to start.
