Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 is no closer to being found as the disappearance of the Boeing 777 carrying 239 people nears its two-week mark.
Pilot suicide, terrorism and hijacking are some possibilities that are being theorized to the plane as the search area expanded to 7 million square miles. White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said last week that there are a number of possible scenarios that are being investigated as to what happened to the flight.
Rick Mathews, of the National Center for Security & Preparedness at the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy of SUNY Albany, tells CBSDC that there is another theory that should be put into play: the missing flight is being held for ransom by a group of individuals, maybe including people from the flight crew.
You want to most likely hide the plane so that it will not be seen and get these people away from there. You want a place to prove life, confirm the fact that they are alive without giving away their location, Mathews told CBSDC, adding that this was an internal hijacking that might have been perpetrated by one or more members of the crew.
Mathews feels the hijackers will go public anytime now because the weight of the world and governments will be on them.
If they are ransoming, they want to get away with this, Mathews explained. They are not doing this as a suicidal play, they want to make use of this. They want to make sure they have a place for themselves.
Mathews believes whoever took the plane had an air strip prepared for landing and camouflage as to not be caught by satellites.
It takes a great deal of coordination to hide a plane, he said.

But this long...hundreds of live people and keeping it a secret? That would be amazing.

My favorite and frankly the most plausible theory was posted here yesterday and it went like this:
Obama has been strangely silent about this incident, which means he knows what happened and where the aircraft is now. End theory.
I went ahead and summarized it for the general public as follows:
Nobody is saying anything, therefore they know everything!
If the pilot is proven to be gay, Obama will express his condolences and offer amnesty to those who are persecuted for the love that formerly dare not speaketh itsth nameth.
Yep apparently there are two of them — one for the Pacific and one for the Indian Ocean.
Well, lets see.
Father-in-law of pilot is jailed. Pilot sends his wife and kids into hiding and hijacks the plane and is holding the passengers hostage in order to get his father-in-law released.
Malaysian government is in a tight spot and is trying to figure out how to save face. They have a no-win situation. They have two choices, neither of which are good:
1. Malaysia releases their political prisoner and have the plane and passengers show up and the whole world knows they’ve been bested, or
2. They don’t free their prisoner and the pilot lets the whole world know the passengers are being held hostage and it is all in the hands of the Malaysian government as to whether they will ever see their loved ones again. Malaysia will then be in the cross-hair of other countries, most notably China.
Seems to me that if perchance this plane were stolen *and* also safely put on the ground, that that would already be a stretch as to what clever thieves could theoretically pull off.
To also have the ability, organization, and general wherewithall to hold 230+ hostages? For a couple of weeks or more? The lunatics may be crazy, but they can't possibly be that nutty. Who would have the patience for that? More likely an incinerator or mass grave would have been put to use. :(
If the plane is not at the bottom of the IO but about to reincarnate as an angel of death, I'd be wary of MAY DAY. You know how these clowns love symbolism e.g. 911, the number representing a life-or-death emergency. Happens to be this year's National Day of Prayer, not to mention the usual history/meaning of the "holiday", or the list of events on "this day in history". Most in notably 1945 and 2011.
Eh who knows, but always best to have the homework ready to turn in, just in case.
It takes a long time and a big delivery system to get $3 billion together and to the site.
No mention of ransom demands though. (not to give anyone ideas of doing a scam or something - nah)
What I find comical is the media and their ‘breaking news’ on what they THINK might have happened. So many theories and so little facts.. My thoughts are: If the plane did perish, there would be evidence of it therefore the lack of evidence suggests something else happened. LOL My guess.. Bush did it.
Singapore and JAL take care of their birds. Not sure about the rest. I flew Beeman, Bangladesh Airlines, and that was scary, they were late and the flight attendants started praying on the PA system as we started our take off roll.
WOW! Praying flight attendants over the PA system! Not a vote or voice of confidence. Praise God! He was listening! I hadn’t realized that Bangladesh had an airlines. You’re very brave. God bless and keep you.
I think we should start a ship's pool for the ultimately-correct guess.
Or maybe it should be called a "plane's pool".
I'm pretty much with you in a way or two....I think the plane was hi-jacked, the passengers held as hostages....and though I don't know where the plane landed, if I had to take a shot at guessing, I'd say Pakistan as you did.

Yup, Biman is the correct spelling. I was in Kuwait with a connection thru Dubai and a Biman plane had a collapsed gear on take off that closed the Dubai runway all day. They caught it on video. A trail of sparks going down the runway. Only one injury. Probably because the passenger wasn’t buckled in properly.
After the first two days I figured all the “news” was just being made up on the spot. Yet it is *still* rolling on, egads. Might as well go the alien abduction bamboo triangle route. :)
Been on JAL and ANA.. always good experiences.. international flights.. but who knows what’s going on in any cockpit. At least the Japanese have many decades of history clear of kamakazi incidents.
I've not tuned into CNN even once and I won't. Hearing Rush talk about CNN's fascination and full time coverage was enough to thoroughly disgust me. Vulchers.
Yeah, you’re right and I don’t have any plans to visit the Orient regardless. I would feel completely safe on El Al and otherwise I’ll stick with our own, and perhaps British Airways. That’s it. I always take a look at the pilots too and I have changed my mind, but only once. :)
