The states people are fleeing in 2014
Forbes via MSN ^ | February 13, 2014 | Susan Adams

More people are moving out of New Jersey than are moving in. The same is true for Illinois and New York. Those three states top the "outbound" list compiled by United Van Lines, the big St. Louis-based moving company that has put together an annual survey of where Americans are moving for the last 37 years.

The company analyzed a total of 125,000 moves across the 48 continental states and the District of Columbia in 2013 and came up with a picture of migration patterns across the U.S.

According to Professor Michael Stoll, chair of the Department of Public Policy at the University of California Los Angeles and a consultant to United Van Lines who studies American migration, the moves reflect long-term shifts in the U.S. economy and the hit to employment in many states resulting from the slow recovery.

Of the top nine states where more people moved out than moved in, four are in the Northeast: In addition to New Jersey and New York, Connecticut (No. 5) and Massachusetts (No. 8) make the list. The list also reflects Americans’ desire to leave the frigid states in the north for warmer climes. "Over the last 20-30 years there has been a general shift of the population from the Midwest and Northeast to the South and West, which we think of as a move from the frost belt to the sun belt," Stoll says.

“The list also reflects Americans’ desire to leave the frigid states in the north for warmer climes.”

Really? Are you sure about that? Then why aren’t folks leaving Wisconsin, Montana, Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska and Colorado?

You don’t suppose they are fleeing cold economic opportunities for warmer economic opportunities, you know, fleeing the ultra-blue states for ultra-red ones?

It is not a frost belt/sunbelt migration.

It is an Neoeuropa/America migration

Life in tyrannical Neoeuropa doesn’t measure up to real America

What on earth is the draw to Oregon?

Demographics.

Not everything is politics. For every Detroit, there's a Portland.

The following web site provides detailed information on different cities. Just type in the city, state, and it will provide all kinds of data.

http://www.city-data.com/

here is the link for Osage Beach.

http://www.city-data.com/city/Osage-Beach-Missouri.html

You might also want to consider Springfield, MO, or Joplin, MO. Springfield is nicknamed the Queen City of the Ozarks; They are both very nice towns. They are also less hilly than Osage Beach for bike riding.

As an aside, my brother will ride his bike when the temperature is above freezing and there is no snow on the ground. There are usually several days in the St. Louis area during the winter months when he is able to ride his bike.

The town I am in has a pretty large retired population... larger than "normal" I saw 2 elderly gents at 2 different times during the day with those black European fishing boat captain hats like the guy on the left in this picture:

For driving around town in a Buick of his choice though, I am thinking classic fedora hats of respectable men like Tom Landry or Bear Bryant wore.

See wha you mean about Cook county. That is Shitcago, right?

Yep.

Rahm Emanuel ("You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.") is the mayor there. My brother's a Democrat lawyer with a firm on LaSalle Street, but he's quite tired of Rahm and says he's now ready to vote Republican.

Thanks again. I’m not talking about pedaling a bike, although I do that sometimes too. I meant motorcycle riding...the season is WAY too short in Michigan.

Anyhow, I will check out the areas you mentioned.

I read it has a high crime rate. I think I will stick with the coastal Mississippi dream for now.

I misunderstood. In that case, the hills in the Ozarks would not be as big an issue. My neighbor in St. Louis County has a Harley. This winter has been exceptionally cold, but in past years, he has had many opportunities to ride his bike during the winter.

What on earth is the draw to Oregon?

Probably not police protection. Most Sheriffs due to budgets and costs really can’t answer many 911 calls.

The first clue as to how dangerous it is to live in Oregon’s Josephine County?

No one answers the phone at the sheriff’s office.

“Due to budgetary constraints,” says a recorded voice, “we are only able to answer the phone from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.”

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/woman-oregon-raped-911-send-home-article-1.1353085

It probably isn’t the weather.

Maybe its the pot and liberalism.

“I could NEVER understand Chicago as a concept.
High cost of living, high taxes of all types, cold winter, hot summer, crime, etc.”

I spent one summer and one winter in Chicago, that was too much.
