Bozell on IRS Scandal: ‘Bigger Than Watergate’
Newsbusters.org ^ | March 7, 2014 | NB Staff

Posted on 03/07/2014 12:36:36 PM PST by Kaslin

Media Research Center President Brent Bozell appeared on Fox News’ “The Kelly File” last night and chastised the networks for skipping the substance of the latest congressional hearing on the IRS’ targeting of conservative groups. Bozell’s comments came after Lois Lerner, the IRS official at the center of the scandal, once again refused to answer questions during a congressional hearing, instead choosing to use her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination.

Rather than discussing the merits of the latest hearing, all three networks chose instead to play up the verbal confrontation between Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) and Congressman Elijah Cummings (D-MD), making it 99 days since ABC, CBS and NBC have even mentioned the actual IRS scandal. “I do believe that this IRS scandal is bigger than Watergate. And I think if you look at it objectively I think you conclude that” proclaimed Bozell.

Bozell on IRS Scandal: ‘Bigger Than Watergate’

Bozell began his analysis by pointing out that “I knew instinctively that if there was going to be any coverage, it was not going to be the bombshell of Lois Lerner taking the fifth again. It was going to be that little stunt that the Democrats pulled. This was designed solely for media attention. This was grandstanding. This was just an old game in Washington, but they knew that they can get headlines from it.”

The MRC president continued his dissection of the media’s coverage by pointing out that “we knew what they would do, which is not cover Lois Lerner, because they haven't covered her and they have ignored this scandal almost from day one… And by God, they succeeded. CBS did a story this morning, no mention, no discussion -- no serious discussion about her but they talked about Elijah Cummings. ABC did nothing at all.”

Bozell noted how “Remember I told you last week that they had done 22 seconds since June of 2013. Well, that 22 second record continues.” MRC documented how the day after the latest IRS hearing, NBC News framed the story by observing that “In Washington today, a public and startling example of the kind of behavior Congress has become known for and Congress has become gridlocked over.”

Bozell went on to argue that “In other words, Megyn, the story last night was not Lois Lerner. It was Congress.” The MRC president pointed out how with the IRS scandal it’s “becoming more and more apparent that there were serious crimes committed. The only question is how far up the ladder does this reach?”

The MRC president concluded the segment by bringing in some much needed historical context: I thought back in 1987, 1988 with Iran Contra. If you recall that, which is piddly stuff compared to this. But day in and day out, live coverage from the networks. Not a news story at night, all-day coverage to find out what Iran Contra was all about, what Ollie North had done. So, now, you have this woman who comes in to testify. She doesn't even make the news.”

The courts have something called “the clean hands doctrine”.

It is based on an ancient principle of law “Those who seek equity must do equity”...

Unclean hands makes the person lose standing.

I am sure FReepers on the ball can figure out what this means.

And that idiot Issa fell for it. He gave Elijah Cummings (Lawn Jockey, MD) exactly what he was looking for. And he “cemented” his “relationship” with his constituents as a fringe benefit because “he gave it to Whitey.”

Yes, one would think the IRS SHUTTING DOWN THE TEA PARTY AHEAD OF THE 2012 ELECTION, thereby SUPPRESSING THE REPUBLICAN VOTE would be far worse than President Nixon covering up for some guys who broke into hotel room to steal a Democrat campaign strategy document. Why would Lerner do this on her own volition without being ORDERED TO DO SO? She WOULDN'T!

She MUST be given prison time and this must be pursued further up the chain. Get Valerie Jarrett to testify. Why is this woman always hidden in the shadows? This government unaccountable to the people and not held accountable for their crimes must be stopped.

The “courts” are in almost complete control of the bolsheviks taking over the country.

I’m not sure we can get out of this without a very messy struggle.

The alternative is to slip into the black abyss of totalitarian statism until it is either crushed from within or without or both.

Cummings plus the MSM. Whadda Team. Give the Dems some credit. There is simply no doubting their excellent orchestration skills. Issa should have walked out immediately after he adjourned the meeting.

On the contrary, she would SO do this "of her own volition" but would be restrained by the possibility of being punished for it. However, with the current admin, Obama and Holder, that restraint was inherently removed.

Watergate was a John Dean operation to retrieve the Black Book of prostitutes the DNC used for entertainment. Among the names was Dean’s girlfriend and future wife.

Nixon was never involved in any aspect of the break-in but only the cover-up to protect his lieutenants.

Anyone who believes that the MSM and its allies will report anything but rainbows and unicorns about the Marxist takeover of this nation is simply deluding themselves.

The difference this time is that the entire Rat Party is in on the coverup.

Pretty much the case.

And whatever the facts of the scandal, you can rest assured that the inept Issa won’t get to the bottom of it.

Bozell is right, of course.

But Benghazi is bigger than the IRS scandal
And Fast and Furious is bigger than Benghazi
And Obama’s identity is bigger the Fast and Furious.

I guess the IRS scandal is given the most attention because it has the most active leads.

If a scandal happens and nobody covers it, it is not a scandal.

Conversely, if the media beats a constant drumbeat proclaiming that something is a scandal, it becomes one. The MSM could make a scandal over a Republican having scrambled eggs for breakfast.

Exactly. If the media were doing its job and acted as aggressively as they did with Watergate—recruiting sources, connecting the dots, all the things reporters used to do—this Administration would be toast.

There is no crime this Administration could commit which would arouse the slightest interest on the part of the lame-stream media.

In a tyranny or a despotism, the government never commits crimes against its subjects.

It's only after the tyrannical government is deposed that the guilty parties become criminals.

Ironically, the United States of America actually prosecuted the leaders, politicians, police and soldiers of such a tyranny within the last 70 years.

And now, the United States has become what it prosecuted. The hypocrisy is many layers deep.

All obama scandals are bigger than watergate...

The only thing that made Nixon’s watergate a scandal, was the media...IMO!

In my view it was nothing more than political shenanigans, as a result there weren’t dead bodies, and thousands of honest citizens harassed by the IRS.

President Nixon later joked about it. He said it was a really dumb idea to bug the DNC HQ. They should have bugged McGovern’s HQ.

So...no scandal
