Obama to Dems: Boehner will pass immigration reform in 2014

President Obama has told Senate Democrats he expects Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to pass immigration reform this year, defying predictions the issue is dead for 2014.

Obama believes Republicans will feel politically vulnerable if they fail to advance the issue, a high priority among Hispanic voters, according to Democratic senators who met with the president this week.

Obama sees immigration reform as a source for optimism in what has otherwise shaped up as a tough year for Democrats. “He predicted the House would pass something this year,” said Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), who attended the meeting.

Obama cautioned senators to brace themselves for difficult negotiations with House Republicans later this year.

“He said we’re then all going to have a challenging conversation,” Kaine added. “He said it was more likely than not the House would do something.”

Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), the lead sponsor of the Senate-passed immigration bill, described Obama as “cautiously optimistic” after the meeting.

ADVERTISEMENT “I think our Republican colleagues realize that to be blocking immigration reform is not good for them,” Schumer added. Boehner has made several recent moves giving Obama and his Democratic allies hope, such as hiring Rebecca Tallent to serve as his new director of immigration policy. She previously worked for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), a co-sponsor of the Senate immigration bill.

Boehner plans to unveil a set of Republican principles for immigration reform before Obama’s Jan. 28 State of the Union address.

It may be as simple as Roberts and Boehner being closet Democrats who believe in “helping the poor”.

Someone remind me again why I should vote Republican in November.

As far as I'm concerned unless you're voting for a Tea Party member you shouldn't.

The easiest thing is just to ignore the issue. That’s what Harry Reid does to everything that comes from the House. If you ignore an issue, it will go away.

No can do! The United States Chamber of Commerce wants amnesty and they're not going to let their bought and paid for Speaker off the hook.

The USCC is a big an enemy to Liberty loving Americans as the democrat party.

It only takes a couple of dozen, really fewer, treasonous Republicans to pass anything Obama wants.

The political campaigning for November begins In about 3 months. No Republican running for office would be craze to come out in support of amnesty. If Boehner can’t ram this issue throughout the house before the campaigning begins, the issue is dead.

That's why our message to each of our representatives needs to be clear. We will not only expect a no vote, but we will hold our representative responsible for what their leadership team does here. If the Speaker and the other leaders push through any reform that even has a sniff of amnesty, we will stay home and they will lose in November. It's not just THEIR vote, but the leadership THEY put in place that will determine our decision in November. Even if the House pushes through more sensible reforms, the conference committee in this environment will add the worst of the Senate's bill into the final and the House will pass bad law. We will vote in November based on the final bill, not the House bill. It is near impossible to consider any immigration reform in this toxic environment because any reform will be soured by the Senate and abused by the unlawful executive branch.

Why does the GOP consider it their number one issue? Because that is what their #1 source of corporate money is telling them.

I believe that is absolutely the case. America is a corporatist state.

Exactly. They have something on Boehner.

For fun - call his offices and ask them why he is being blackmailed. Some of them will know or suspect. Probably an attractive staff member.

“And what party will that be other than a permanent minority one?”

Exactly! They want the happy days back when types like MINORITY leader Bob Michael and MINORITY leader Howard Baker ran things. They want to rebuild the “American Consensus” that was shattered when conservatism began its long march to Washington, upsetting their apple cart.

I have no doubt that Boner agrees with Zero 102%.

There’s not a dime’s worth of difference between the DemoncRATS and the Republicans anymore.

It is not so much that we lowered taxes.

What happened is we chased a good number of formerly American jobs elsewhere, many to China.

That made American businesses a great deal of money.

Unfortunately it has also made a great deal of formerly American companies, now Chinese.

A whole lot of the GOP is now sold out to China.

The problem with that is, the GOP has no ownership.

So what has happened is, an ever smaller segment of “American” interests have an ever larger interest in maintaining the current situation, which will eventually blow up in America’s face.

And Democrats will be in control, when that happens.

The GOP has made a great deal of money, but now we need to bring back American jobs to America.

That is just the deal.

We cannot continue to send America jobs elsewhere.

We need to repatriate American jobs.

The biggest issue is how that is done.

We need jobs.

It is so nice of Chuck Schumer to be helpful!

He is such a nice man and is always looking out for the good of the GOP and the American people.

What could possibly go wrong with taking this wonderful man's sound and generous advice?

It’s a possibility. Boehner just passed a Senate Democratic obama backed two trillion dollar budget bill through the House.

And how can we rely on Obama or Hillary to enforce the law as written? Obama has ignored or selectively enforced immigration law and other laws, e.g., Obamacare. He is governing thru Executive Orders.

Could be the politicians grand plan all along. The less voters they have to coddle, the more they enjoy their jobs.

Obama to Dems: Boehner will pass immigration reform in 2014

Of course he will.
But he won't be doing it all by himself, will he?

So yep- if he can, he will.
And how many other republicans will help him?
After the filing dates that is...
