US Secretary of State John Kerry presented Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov with potatoes from Idaho before the beginning of talks in Paris. Kerry said that Lavrov and he had spoken to one another several weeks ago and planned to discuss Syria. Then the Secretary of State produced two potatoes from a big cardboard box and gave them to the Russian minister.

He was probably telling him, that it is a good potato to make vodka out of. He is implying that Russians love to drinking heavy, and vodka is their drink of choice. /s

“all this meat and no potatoes” was a phrase we used when I was a lad to signify a lack of women.
So maybe Kerry is symbolically offering himself to the Russian?
You are assuming they had minds to begin with. You might be assuming too much.
Kerry spent part of the Christmas holiday week with his family at one of their houses, in the ski town of Ketchum, Idaho, and apparently Lavrov had mentioned the fame of Idaho potatoes. So Kerry brought two of them along to Paris.
They were, in Lavrov’s words, “impressive.”
After Lavrov asked if he needed to keep the brown wrapping paper, a female adviser seated to Kerry’s right joked, “protection?”
Kerry joked that Lavrov likely won’t make vodka out of them, as he’s not a vodka drinker.
“Well, anyway,” Kerry said, presumably moving the conversation onto actual diplomatic talks.
Never fear. I understand Dennis Rodman is en route to straighten things out.

Kerry brought agricultural products into a foreign country? I’m sure be broke a law when be did that.
