Contrary to what establishment GOP types would have us believe, a third party would not be lethal to the conservative cause.

Contrary to what establishment GOP types would have us believe, a third party would not be lethal to the conservative cause. In fact, here in Blue State NY where there is a Conservative Party ticket of candidates on every ballot, it keeps the Republicans from drifting into Country Club mode. In my own town, we just swept the election, putting in place an entire Republican/Conservative board and knocking out the incumbent Democrat Supervisor. This would not have been possible without a separate Conservative Party line. In fact, more people vote on the Conservative in every general election here than are registered as Conservatives. They cross over to make a statement. The same thing is possible at the national level with a 3rd Party (Tea Party or otherwise). Primaries simply don’t matter as much if the GOP candidates are dependent on getting a 3rd Party endorsement. The GOP wants everyone to believe that a 3rd Party isn’t feasible. It is and it will force GOP candidates to be more conservative in order to get the endorsement.

We don’t need a 3rd party. We need a 2nd party.

The name is always the selling point. Just “The Reagan Party” might do that.

>> It is and it will force GOP candidates to be more conservative in order to get the endorsement.

If we create a viable third party, it can’t be to force the GOP to shift right. The purpose of the third party must be to replace the non-Progressive portion of the GOP and to bring in the non-Progs in the Democrat party as well.

If we create a third party to act as a threat to the GOP, then it is doomed from the start. The GOP must die as a national party. Eventually, the goal would be to push the ideological Progressives of both parties to merge into one and then we can start having the real debate that this country needs: Progressives vs Nationalists.

While the situation you describe is encouraging, I just don’t see it translating to the national stage. not saying don’t try, but I see the republican vote being split.
You can look to last Tuesday in Virginia, where a third party Libertarian pulled enough votes away to give a Democrat a victory.

A third party now, when conservatives are close to taking over the Republican party, would be a disaster.

Instead, conservatives should pitch to Libertarians that they will get more of what they want from conservatives than they ever would from liberal-leftists.

And if the Libertarians join with conservatives to overthrow the current Republican leadership, conservatives would likely reward them with more than expected liberty.

More crap.

People are Republicans for all kinds of reasons and none of us agree on everything. It will be the same with a 3rd party. For some reason only the Left is capable of uniting all their factions into a voting block. We sit around and demonize everyone who is labeled un-pure.

You're no help.

Those votes weren't pulled away because they didn't belong to the Republican party in the first place.

You’re right. The GOP and Dems are both collectivists. It would be night to have a conservative alternative on the national level.

See my tag line.

A national Conservative party might endorse the GOP candidate or run someone else. Voters could register either way and may the best party win. Doesn’t have to be either-or unless the GOP runs someone unacceptable.

You said it before I did, fieldmarshaldj, and needed fewer words than I'd likely have used. I can't tell the Republicrats from the Democans even with a score card.

If our nation is to live, we need a party that does not include McCain.

Call it Tea, call you what you want.

RINO’s must be voted out.

Can you hear me now Cornyn?

Agree! But, it will make a quicker and bigger ascension of the Democrat party much more pronounced and lethal!

Wrong debate; IMO, what we need to debate is collectivism* v. liberty-ism.

(* AKA Statism.)
