Obama to media: "....And there are a whole bunch of members of Congress right now who privately will tell you, I know our positions are unreasonable, but we're scared that if we don't go along with the tea party agenda, or the -- some particularly extremist agenda, that we'll be challenged from the right. And the threats are very explicit. And so they toe the line. And that's part of why we've seen a breakdown of just normal routine business done here in Washington on behalf of the American people.

And all of you know it. I mean, I'm not telling you anything you don't know because it's very explicit. You report on it. A big chunk of the Republican Party right now is -- are in gerrymandered districts where there's no competition and those folks are much more worried about a tea party challenger than they are about a general election where they've got to complete against a Democrat or go after independent votes. And in that environment, it's a lot harder for them to compromise......." The October 8, 2013 rant

That's not being too representative, but I'll take it at the moment.

He’s willing to open negotiations after the unconditional surrender.

He's willing to talk after he gets his way.

Anybody else notice that the little fudgepacker fights just like a woman?

I was getting my nails done while the resident was yammering on—and on—and on.

Thank goodness the sound wasn’t on.

Several people in the nail shop were saying not nice things about the resident, and I loved it, but didn’t chime in. I could tell that the person doing my nails was one of his supporters, and I didn’t want to say anything that would make her slip with the nippers she was using-—LOL!

"...but only after government open, debt ceiling raised..."

With all the rhetoric about 'holding hostages', isn't this position the very essence of 'ransom'???

I mean, how is this different from 'I'll release the kidnap victim after you drop off the bag of money?'

And what kind of idiot trusts a habitual liar and gives him everything he wants on the promise of a payoff?

Oh. Republicans. Yeah, that's what kind of idiots...

IF what he says is true,

the representatives... hmmm... that word means something, does it?

well, the representatives are representing the will of their constituents, and not acting like elitist “know betters”.

This reads like something from The Onion.
So he wants them to give him the milk, and then he will discuss the cow, which he then will not buy.

If crybaby Boehner falls for this there isn’t enough duct tape in the world to keep conservative heads from exploding.

"but we're scared that if we don't go along with the tea party agenda"

I thought the idea of a democracy is that the pols had to listen to us.

And since when was gerrymandering a republican idea?

Just once I wish a presstitute would point out the obvious to this freakin' pretender.

Heard that before. First, raise the debt, and then we’ll talk. Riiight.

First, eliminate Education, EPA, USDA, and half of the cabinet-level agencies.

Obama’s speech (what I could stomach watching)reminded me of Caesars Chavez justifying his take over of the economy. He sounded like a dictator not an elected president. I fear that Obama will use the debt crisis to seize more unconstitutional powers in bypassing Congress. We could be seeing an end to our Republic. Sadly the GOP will likely cave in.
