A dashboard camera in a state trooper's car has captured the dramatic moment a father taking his children on a road trip pulled out a gun and shot an officer who then returned fire and killed him.
John Van Allen, 34, was driving with three of his children when he was pulled over on Interstate 84 east of Portland, Oregon by Trooper Matt Zistel, 26, for speeding.
But what was supposed to be a routine traffic stop soon escalated into violence when Van Allen emerged from the car and, despite Zistel urging him to get back inside, pulled out a gun......
The dramatic footage was released to The Oregonian after a public information request from the paper following the August 29 death.

So, what was the reason for all of that?
Too old to be an “aspiring rapper.” Was he a “failed rapper”?
>>You can see it on DU, between rants on how evil everything conservative is, they are complaining how in the past few years they cant find jobs, find their healthcare is ruined, and everything is just getting worse.
Exactly. Right now, the LIVs are so disconnected from reality that they think all their woes are caused by some random white middle class guy who has a job. I used to carry occasionally, but this new insanity on the left is causing me to carry always. You just never know when some black is going to go off on the leftist version of Sudden Jihad Syndrome.
It was saying he was living in Pittsburgh (article said he was going back to S.C. though?) and one group he apparently was part of (on FB) was “Stop The Violence Pittsburgh”. Yes,
just commit it vs. a cop in Oregon instead...
Looks like he fiddled with his gun after that. Wonder if he accidentally released his mag and had to retrieve it.
Looks like a SAW to me.
Those 55 zones are for the money, bought by lobbyists for the cities and counties immediately after the demise of the federal 55 MPH directive. That's in the legislative history.
I'm guessing the cop had good reason to stop him.
“That cop did NOT hit the guy....look at the video... if the perp had got hit in the chest, he would NOT have been moving around like that.”
You sir, obviously have no self-defense, firearms, or medical training whatsoever. I am not attempting to be rude or condescending with such a statement, I am merely attempting to make an obvious factual statement.
The primary cause of death in cases of GSW (gunshot wound) is exsanguination - that is, blood loss. That can take several minutes to kill someone, and several minutes is a long-damned time when someone is pointing a gun at you and refusing to bleed out faster.
Even a hypothetical perfect shot in the “ten ring” that, again hypothetically due to ideal body positioning, perforates both lungs and damages some of the major blood vessels around the heart, such as the venae cavae, it may be several minutes before the person finally expires.
Fatal wounds do not mean instantly fatal nor instantly incapacitating.
As a mental exercise, hold your breath. While holding your breath, point your index finger at an object and start counting off seconds. If you had a gun in your hands, pointed at someone, and you lost the use of your lungs, how many seconds could you continue to pull the trigger? You may be a dead man standing, but you can still stand, and walk, and kill if you so choose. Likewise, your brain has enough blood in it to allow you to continue functioning for several seconds if all blood flow to it were cut off, plenty of time to squeeze off a couple of shots.
The reality is that you, or anyone else, can sustain fatal wounds and in many cases continue to function for several minutes. This is to be expected. This is not abnormal, it is normal. Any expectation contrary to this will leave you surprised and ineffective in a self-defense situation.
So, not every guy get to tote the SAW around, if I’ve understood the system. So this is someone with decent weapons and combat training.
Very weird. Like someone said over, drugs?
The state of Oregon still posts 55 MPH as the speed limit on many highways and interstates. So it’s very possible he was going at least 21 MPH over the limit.
And yet that’s what happened
-——So this is someone with decent weapons and combat training——
Perhaps not. He didn’t learn that dancing while shooting makes for poor marksmanship
As to being shot and continuing to fight, ask any Mid-east vet who fought Islamists as to how many rounds it took to take down one fighter. Light rounds (9mm, 5.56, etc) are notorious for not having stopping power.
I have a 9 mm but use rounds designed to stop, not go through, for self-defense. A .357 and larger has far more stopping power. My AR is not a 5.56 even though the ammo’s cheaper because of the same thing.
That’s wh I carry a 40 or 45.
Is 1:11 where he gets shotand again if so why doesnt he appear to be in agony? Again note hes bent over for a moment as if hes just been SHOT
........................................................
As any combat vet can tell you (myself included) I have been shot twice and pain is not the first indicator. Instead it is intense pressure from the area from the velocity of the projectile. The body reacts instantly shutting down nerve endings in the area resulting in a numb feeling in the actual wound area. I was hit in the chest which went into the lung collapsing it and all I felt was pressure and numbness. 8 hours later dragged off the field in a poncho, dumped into the back of an APC then onto the floor of a huey troop transport under fire which of course caused being loaded a hurried lift and dump, even with all the jostling no pain. It was at the field hospital when they lifted my arm that I had covering my chest did the pain hit and I passed out. The bodys defense mechanisms from trauma are remarkable.
This has been going on for a while. It's just that the press doesn't identify onesy, twosy type incidents for what they are. Not to mention black perps are eminently practical. Anyone they kill will presumably not be needing their possessions. So it's not a lynching - it's a robbery.
That is exactly what happened. You can see he bends down to pick up the mag; reinserts it into the bottom of the pistol (which at this time would not have a round in the chamber) and then retreats to his car. He even fiddles with the pistol as he retreats. He was either trying to rack the slide or the mag was empty or both and the slide locked open on the empty mag.
Great post, and Safrguns, make sure you take a look at it.
There is a reason rifles are much preferred to pistols when the going gets rough, and this video illustrates “why?” extraordinarily well.
