Is the Bible still relevant?
Fox News.com ^ | September 19, 2013 | Kelly Wright

Skeptics scoff at it. Atheists denounce it. Agnostics question it. Scientists debunk it. Religion debates it. The faithful value it. Yet, all agree it has an impact on the world. The Bible.

There are many books in the world ranging from fiction to non-fiction. There are autobiographies of great men and women, wonderful bestselling fictional tales from Shakespeare to "Harry Potter," from "50 Shades of Gray" to "Lord of the Rings."

However, the Holy Bible continues to be sold more than any other book on the planet. The Bible is still the most widely published and distributed book in the world. It continues to be the world’s bestselling book, with billions being sold.

It is a book hard to ignore. It is filled with riveting stories about life and death, tragedy and triumph, war and peace, love and hate, fear and courage, sadness and joy, darkness and light, good and evil, heaven and hell, God and Satan, destruction and salvation; sin and redemption. It is a book that is never short on topics addressing our human existence.

***wished the attackers were Bible thumpers.***

They are already comparing the Nairobi attackers with fundamentalist Christians over at DU.

True, but it’s not A bible, it’s THE Bible. Even many supposedly educated writers do not seem to know the difference.

I'm not sure I see your point. Are there not times when saying "A Bible" is correct? Example:

"There's a Bible on the bookshelf, and another on the table".

Could you clarify, please?

It's always the same thing over there..."But...what about The Crusades? There's no difference!"

Yeesh. I'm not a Christian or a Muslim, but at least I can tell which group's adherents are more likely to want to kill me for not believing in their faith. All I have to do as look at the actions of the terrorists in Kenya ("Are you a Muslim? No? Die!")

Whether or not people believe the Bible is God’s word it is clear that the world would be a MUCH better place if people lived by the 10 commandments and the teachings in the New Testament.

From the Merriam-Webster site:

uncapitalized:
--> : a publication that is preeminent especially in authoritativeness or wide readership <--

The Bible is always capitalized, but when merely referencing an authoritative, widely accepted publication as "the bible" of (whatever) it's not capitalized.

Hope that helps.

And for Jews to fulfill (all of the fulfillable) 613 commandments and their subsets as contained in the Five Books of Moses, the Prophets, the Writings, and the Oral Law (Talmud) as dictated by Moses, from G-d, to the Jews on Mount Sinai and in the desert, and as extrapolated by the sages and rabbis of each subsequent generation... Right? If so, then AMEN brother!

(BTW, why do Christians hold themselves to the 10 commandments? Those were given to Jews. These are for non-Jews: www.noahide.org)

For some reason, that last post left out the complete definition of the uncapitalized word:

: a publication that is preeminent especially in authoritativeness or wide readership
-->the fisherman's bible<-- -->the bible of the entertainment industry<--

Interesting...I think The Harbinger mentions something of that.

For those of us who are not of Jewish descent, which of "The 10" can we ignore?

Interesting...I think The Harbinger mentions something of that.

Never heard of it. This is a readable approach that meets scholarly standards of evidence opening an entirely unexplored pastoral hermeneutic with both real-world applicability and ties to the archaeological and geophysical record. This is not a novel, but a very serious and direct treatment of the Torah and its ties to the New Covenant. Be sure to read the section entitled "The Least of These."

Yeah, I'm the author.

Thanks, CO

only a complete folking idiot would pose such blaphemy

<><><><<

To someone who is unclear or unsure as to the Bible’s relevance, your statement has absolutely no value whatsoever.

It’s a point of discussion, which is entirely appropriate.

From where I sit, the idiocy is in avoiding the relevance conversation by simply positing as true that which is being questioned.

Scripture is God-breathed. Lord Jesus appealed to it—”Have you not read...?”—as authoritative, even though He IS the Word made flesh. So did his apostles.

It would be just words on a page if not for the fact that it is the living Word from the Living God.

...why do Christians hold themselves to the 10 commandments?

They show us our sin, and our inability to keep them is a constant reminder that we need a Savior.

Good question. In essence, none, rather your obligations of acknowledging the One G-d, honoring your parents, and against coveting etc, are folded into the practical application of the 7 laws of the “Children of Noah.”

www.noahide.org. Hey, for Christians, the least you could do is check out something that is directly from scripture....
