The circumstances and aftermath of the Trayvon Martin shooting took the center stage Wednesday at the first ever meeting of the Congressional Black Men and Boys Caucus, aimed at addressing issues affecting black boys and their growth.
"We have to train them [black boys] because there's nobody really out there to train them to be good men," said Rep. Frederica Wilson, D-Fla., pointing to an education and mentoring program in Miami-Dade County schools. "These boys are not to be feared, they are meant to be loved."
The caucus, first formed in March, is aimed at educating members of Congress on issues which disproportionately affect black men and boys.
Wilson said Trayvon Martin is a "martyr who brought to the forefront the struggles of black and brown boys," a statement later echoed by his father, Tracy Martin.
However, Tracy Martin said in a clear, steady voice, President Barack Obama also deserves credit for "weighing in [on the case] from an African American perspective."
"It sparks the conversation in every household over the dinner table and the conversation is: What can we do to keep this from happening to your son?" Tracy Martin said. "What can we do as a people, as a nation to keep other kids from dying?"
Tracy Martin said the Trayvon Martin Foundation, founded in March 2012, is focused on working against similar situations and targets senseless crime and gun violence. It will also provide mentoring programs and education on Florida laws and their effects.
Attorney Benjamin Crump, who represents Trayvon Martin's family and sat beside Tracy Martin during the hearing, had another idea to prevent similar situations: changing the Stand Your Ground law.
Crump said they are hoping to have the law amended to state that a person cannot initiate a confrontation "and then throw up their hands and claim Stand Your Ground."
For her part, caucus co-chair Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton, D-D.C., said the change must be more drastic.
"We want to roll back the [Stand Your Ground] law, starting in Florida," Norton said.
Other speakers at the caucus included Michael Eric Dyson, a professor of sociology at Georgetown University, David Johns, the executive director for the White House's initiative on education excellence for African Americans, and Kweisi Mfume, the former president of the NAACP.
The first meeting for the newly founded caucus, co-chaired by Norton and Rep. Danny Davis, D-Ill., was announced on July 18.
George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer in Sanford, Fla., was found not guilty of murder on July 13 in Trayvon Martin's shooting death.
When will these hard heads finally understand that the legal issue was always "self-defense" , and never "STAND YOUR GROUND" ?
Probably , because the NAACP , Zippy , and Holder don't want to realize the true legal issue.
So much for Zippy and Holder being real attorneys
Zippy gaveup his legal license in Illinois ; Holder has no excuse ..except that he may be underqualified as Attny. General !
They want to satisfy the "Professional race baiter" lynch mobs , .. especially the NAACP, who has always has an issue with "Stand Your Ground "!!
Gotta placate the mob , and keep the voter base happy !

First, tell your kid to pull his pants up and wear a belt.
Well, HatChickPerson - “These boys are not to be feared”has part of her black pander correct. “Those boys” are the main reason Florida passed the Castle and Stand Your Ground laws.
Know Guns, No Fear.
No gun, Know fear.
If faced with believing the Founders or a black South FloriDUH Democrap with hideous taste, choose the Founders.
What can you do, Papa Martin? Start with better parenting of your children. Teach them not to aimlessly wander the streets like a druggie or jump people who happen to be carrying guns.
Had you done your job better, Papa Martin, nobody would know who your son is and he would still be alive. It ain’t society’s fault. It isn’t Zimmerman’s fault. It isn’t “stand your ground’s” fault. It’s your fault and his mother’s fault.
Sorry if that hurts but sometimes the truth hurts.
We have to train them [black boys] because theres nobody really out there to train them to be good men, said Rep. Frederica Wilson, D-Fla.
A democrap espousing the communist goals:
Communist Goals (1963) Congressional Record—Appendix, pp. A34-A35 January 10, 1963
# 40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.
# 41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents. (IF they’re still around...)

Is this that “Look at my hat! Look at it!” Congressmoron?
Well said and simple, A Father at every table!
“Mamas, don’t let your babies grow up to be street thugs...”
You can start by not indoctrinating him into your street gang and planning to buy him an illegal firearm.
Oh, and make sure any "creepy ass cracker" you decide to jump ugly on isn't armed.
What a crock of you-know-what from ex-gangbanger Tracy Martin.
Tracy, you set a piss-poor example for young Trayvon, and look where it got him.
Because Trayvon's father is a gang thug just like his late thuggish son.
I wish someone could locate and post the photos now on the internet of ADULT Tracy Martin posing with other thuggish-looking ADULT gang members all grinning as they're deliberately flashing their gangsta-membership finger-signals at the camera.
Oh, what a change from the photos the media is publishing of Tracy in expensive threads, nice shave and haircut, manicured hands and suitably somber, almost statesman-like facial expressions and bearing.
Yep, the same Tracy Martin who is now re-constructed from street thug to learned gentleman philosopher....along the lines of Sandra Fluke, former amoral floozie now elevated to Mother Teresa Nightingale status.
Leni
Marry their mom... pretty simple, really.
The most telling was the cover-up job they did on that neck tatoo right before the trial started.
When the phrase “baby momma” came into common, and accepted usage in the black community..the war was lost..
They may have a de facto legal right, soon -
but lots of people will choose to “nullify” and not just
“take the ass whuppin”.
I won’t.
Mamas, don’t have sex with men you’re not married to.
Pick better men, and the population of better men will grow.
Those pictures are easy to find.
Simply Google Tracy Martin Crip
Also note that Tracy had a gang tattoo on his neck that was removed/covered over by a tattoo of praying hands shortly after Trayvon was shot as they began to formulate plans for cashing in on the innocent child’s “murder”.
Nor will I.
