In the wake of the verdict in the Trayvon Martin shooting, several teachers said they would invoke mob justice, vigilantism and the idea that Florida law allows people to hunt and kill black kids when discussing the case with their students.
The Hairpin, a prominent liberal womens blog, asked several teachers, counselors and professors to explain how they would talk about the case which reached its conclusion last week after George Zimmerman was found innocent of Martins murder in their classrooms.
An anonymous English teacher in Alabama said that she would be hesitant to formally teach the subject, but nonetheless thought it could be brought up in relation to vigilantism in literature such as To Kill A Mockingbird and the works of William Faulkner.
The thing is, I see Trayvon Martins everyday, wrote the teacher. I worry about young black men and their prospects in a world where a man is able to kill one without being convicted of something. Even if it isnt as simple as that, kids will see it that way. Rednecks are holding their heads a little higher and tapping the guns on their holsters eager for a stand your ground moment.
Some have alleged that Zimmerman killed Martin in an act of vigilante-style execution, though the jury ultimately acquitted him based on his self-defense claim. Zimmerman suffered bruises and cuts during the altercation, and said that Martin was on top of him and he feared for his life when he fired his gun.
Nevertheless, another teacher cited the verdict as evidence of the fact that Florida law allows people to hunt and kill black youth, and said that it was important to talk about it with students......

That would be in bad taste.
Potentially quite literally in bad taste :)
So you agree with the so called “educators” in this article? I agree with the poster you responded to that they are “ignorant”. TOO bad you are so busy being the spelling cop on the block to see the message.
Teach is a moron. There is such a thing as justifiable homicide. Any teach worth her salt would know that. School sucked. Sucks. And always will suck!
NO they don't. If they did they would be in Chicago, and other cities where REAL MURDER is taking place DAILY. . . . . .
After listening to Rachel Jeantel on the witness stand I believe just about anything anymore. Politicians on the left just loves people like her as for them she is just like a wet dream come true as they are dumb enough to be manipulated in any shape or form they please and then dump on them. I have a feeling as time passes it will only get worse and not better. I am afraid that what ever we see and experience now has been decades in the making and is not about to change from one day to the next.
Trayvon should NOT have broken George Zimmerman’s nose.
Trayvon should NOT have given George Zimmerman two black eyes.
Trayvon should NOT have repeatedly slammed George Zimmerman’s head on the pavement.
Trayvon should NOT have gotten suspended from school for possessing traces of marijuana.
Trayvon should NOT have stolen 12 pcs of ladies jewelry, and a mans watch.
Trayvon should NOT have kept a flat head screwdriver described as a burglary tool, in his backpack.
Trayvon should NOT have had a criminal past of theft, hiding and acting suspicious.
Trayvon should NOT have encouraged ... fellow thugs to commit murder with the tweet, Plzz shoot da #mf dat lied 2 u!.
TRAYVON MARTIN: - Hey, are you following me?
GEORGE ZIMMERMAN: - Ummm, yes.
TRAYVON MARTIN: - May I ask why?
GEORGE ZIMMERMAN: - Well, uh, we've had a number off robberies in this neighborhood lately, and I don't recognize you...
TRAYVON MARTIN: - Oh, well, I'm Travon Martin, I'm spending the summer at my uncle's in unit 12. I expect you'll see a lot of me this summer.
GEORGE ZIMMERMAN: - OK, thanks, good to know. I'm George Zimmerman, by the way.
They shake hands.
TRAYVON MARTIN: - No, thank you for keeping an eye out for your neighbors!
Are these teachers part of the “Nu Skool” that Ms. Jeantel claimed to be a member of?
You don’t need to answer....
There was a time that Boards of Education would force the Superintendents to purge intellectually dishonest jackasses like this.
Sure I will.
I think this is an example of what psychologists call "projection".
If anyone is on a “hair trigger”, looking for any excuse to beat down and kill someone of another race,
it’s not “rednecks”.
And this was happening BEFORE Trayvon decided to beat Zimmerman to death. It was probably just another incident OF the epidemic of “looking for any excuse”.
Initially, it will affect the kids. With time though, the normal kids will all come to realize what kooks these teachers are. When I was in high school, we had some teachers who had goofball ideas like these, but as we grew and observed normal people, we came to know what a kook is.
When our kids were in school they would come home with BS their teachers said, we would educate them with the truth. They are now all adults who think for themselves, don’t believe everything they hear. We as parents need to be on top of all the lies they are being taught, if it’s not feasible to home school.
Simply because I pointed out that grammar errors in a post calling teachers incompetent makes this forum look like it is comprised of a bunch of idiots, you conclude that I must approve of public schools? Really?
Obviously not, but then, I guess the alternative hypothesis escaped your standards of "due diligence." Did you even check my bookmarks which contain original proposals constituting radical alternatives to our existing public "education" system (try this one)?
Never mind sentence structure, spelling, and writing skills. Trayvon, Trayvon, Trayvon...
I wonder how math professors are going to cover it...
