A Texas high school silenced its Valedictorians microphone during his speech when he diverted from his pre-approved remarks and instead spoke about the Constitution.

And in addition, there’s no right to not be offended.
We now have gatekeepers who think it’s their job to keep people from being offended. And with that, out goes our basic individual freedoms and responsibilities.
Whoa! Consider whether the rule was appropriate and not, itself, an infringement on free speech.
If God and Jesus are fair game, as they apparently were, the school isn't under some legal cloud cast by the atheists and their legal henchmen.
At that point, the only legitimate concern about the speech's content is a question of taste. Is he going to refer to his black classmates by the N word? Is he going to utter a naughty word? Is he going to rat out the school administration for promoting promiscuous sex? THEN, you cut off his microphone.
Turns out he did rat out the school administration -- for an absurd rule that constitutes an unnecessary infringement of his free speech.
He showed them up. And he was not only within his rights to do it, he was right!
I assumed the school would like to have some idea of what is going to be said so they wouldn’t need to shutoff the mike. As Reagan said, “I paid for this microphone!”.
The problem there is that the "norms" for a lot of kids today in public are nowhere near the norms a lot of us grew up with. In other words, the "norms" are not really norms anymore.
****I assumed the school would like to have some idea of what is going to be said so they wouldnt need to shutoff the mike.****
If they are monitoring it anyway there is no need for prior approval.
This is just another Tool for Tyrants@tm
As you may know, while military officers are graded on their initiative, they are usually downgraded on their reckless disregard of established rules and procedures.
When the basic institutions of your country have all been corrupted beyond redemption, obeying or adhering to rules that were designed for a moral, loyal people, is foolish, as they're now tools to bind one into servitude to evil.
Naturally, one has to find a balance in such a time as ours. We're not quite at the moment of complete breakdown of the civil order, but we're close enough that every person needs to recognize when their observance and respect for our laws, rules, regulations, etc., is being used to diminish or enslave them.
When the civil authorities have become willing henchmen of an elite class of masters, it's time for the citizens to realize that the compact has been broken, and that they're no longer obligated to uphold their end of the agreement.
Let's try to be objective with what we know about this event. His attempt to expose the "threat" that school officials could and would cut the mic could very well appear to be essentially a childish, knee-jerk, temper tantrum. He turned the spotlight on himself perhaps in an attempt to be a patriot, or perhaps out of revenge.
Hope you all have a nice weekend. My point is that he may have shot himself in the foot with the USNA. Unfortunately for him, it may be comparable to dousing himself with gasoline and lighting a match (talk about picking the time and place of one's battles!).
(Full disclosure: attended a major college grad ceremony a few weeks ago and several (5 or 6) religions were invited to offer prayers. The muslim prayer chant went on for what seemed like 5 minutes and given what I know about 9-11 and seemingly countless loudspeaker calls to prayer in the ME, I nearly reached boiling temperature. But wrote it off as free speech/the schools choice, )
You can’t talk about the Constitution. it’s limiting to the government.
Some high school kid doesn’t get his way and that means tyrants are taking over. Poor kid! Boo and hoo...boo hooo.
One could wonder after this indiscretion (there were more efficient ways to achieve his goals) whether the Navy will trust him enough to make him an officer.
Actually, I would hope that our service academies strive to educate officer candidates who know that constitutional principles are more important than "rules". After all, at the conclusion of WWII our military hanged plenty of guys who followed the rules, but failed to honor more fundamental human rights, like those expressed in our constitution.
I would hope that any US military officer would remember that the constitution comes first. Should someone give them an order to violate somebody's constitutional rights I would hope that they would respectfully decline to participate.
****Some high school kid doesnt get his way and that means tyrants are taking over****
You finally got one right.
Civil disobedience is the only way we will ever get our country back. I suggest we adopt as our symbol, the universal symbol of ill will or the dexterous digit,
And if he doesn’t get three choices of ice cream for lunch the cafeteria is being oppressive of his rights! I love the comedy posts. Only in America!
****I love the comedy posts****
Yeah, apparently you do.
I guess you feel the same way about the valedictorian who tore up his speech and recited the Lord's Prayer the other day.
May your chains rest lightly upon you, friend.
Them cutting off the mike said more than anything the kid could have said in his speech about the Constitution.
What the jackbooted fascists running that school have managed to do is shine a light on their own twisted politics. Rules my effin’ ass.
