The House Ways and Means Committee holds the first Congressional hearing on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) subjecting applicants for tax-exempt status to higher levels of scrutiny based on political leanings.
Witnesses include Acting IRS Commissioner Steve Miller who resigned on Wednesday and the Treasury Departments Inspector General Russell George for Tax Administration.
Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) said the IRS' targeting of "American taxpayers based on politics is both astounding and appalling." He stated that the Committee will "get to the bottom of this practice and ensure it never takes place again.
In announcing the hearing, Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) said that it is "essential that there be a thorough and bipartisan investigation and effective remedial action.
Since June 2011, the Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating whether the Internal Revenue Service discriminated against taxpayers based on political opinions.
Kelly: “This is why we need tax reform.”
Sure seems like it! Walk of Shame!
This punk needs to wear stripes.
I think they did! So, now we get to see how government is really supposed to work!
Never mind tax reform. Miller said he fixed the problem.
Once a group is identified as conservative or liberal in election time ads it is not educational, it is political.
:)
I believe - as we have heard rumblings- this is the TIP of the veritable iceberg.
Miller is a Nazi like snake...
What a piece of work this bad actor is...
Their [.IRS] question specifically asked from the IRS to the Coalition for Life of Iowa---quote:
"Please detail the content of the members of your organization's prayers."
Would that be an appropriate question to a 501c3 applicant? the content of one's prayers?
Miller: It pains me to say I can't speak to that one either.
Schock: You don't know whether that would be an appropriate question to ask an applicant?
Miller:Speaking outside of this case, which I don't know anything about, it would surprise me that that question was asked.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Schock to Mr George: During your investigations, are you aware of the 3 letters submitted by Senators Baucus, Schumer abd Durban written to the IRS, specifically Mr Shulman, asking them to give extra scrutiny to 501c4 applications?
George: I am aware of it but I don't know the details, sir.
Schock: So in your investigation, so far, in questioning employees of the IRS, did you ask them specifically whether or not these letters from sitting US Senators influenced or impacted their decisions around these cases.
George: I do not believe that was part of the inquiry, sir.
Schock: Will you ask those questions in the future?
George: I will ask that, if appropriate. We will certainly do so, if appropriate.
Schock then makes a statement of Citizens United. Obama was furious about that ruling, IIRC, didn't he excoriate SCOTUS publicly? Basically said, screw you, like he does to Congress, and then Obama et al plotted an end run.
Above the law--- always above the law---above the Constitution---the basic definition of tyranny in our Republic.
PS: I would like highly-esteemed Mark Levin to stop calling what is happening in these Unites States under the Obama Adm soft tyranny. What line do they have to cross before Levin starts calling this renegade "government" hard tyranny--- or just plain TYRANNY.
Griffin did a good job also!
Yes I need a ping! At appt.. Can.t watch sounds amazing
He thinks he is untouchable.......kind of the theme with this Obama crowd.
It was so amazing that I think I need to go lie down now...
I, on the other hand, need to go stand up.
Great summation.
Yes..when do we call this hard tyranny?
