The House Ways and Means Committee holds the first Congressional hearing on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) subjecting applicants for tax-exempt status to higher levels of scrutiny based on political leanings.
Witnesses include Acting IRS Commissioner Steve Miller who resigned on Wednesday and the Treasury Departments Inspector General Russell George for Tax Administration.
Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) said the IRS' targeting of "American taxpayers based on politics is both astounding and appalling." He stated that the Committee will "get to the bottom of this practice and ensure it never takes place again.
In announcing the hearing, Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) said that it is "essential that there be a thorough and bipartisan investigation and effective remedial action.
Since June 2011, the Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating whether the Internal Revenue Service discriminated against taxpayers based on political opinions.
Miller coming off like a petulant arrogant jerk...not looking too good for Obama regime...lol
Sounds like they should have Mark Levin up there asking the questions, since it was his Landmark Legal Foundation that uncovered this scandal in the first place.
The very fact that this sham of a hearing is necessary invalidates your statement.
What a scumbag Miller is.
Reichert was the best!!!
Nancy Marks ... Marx.
“You're not cooperating with me Mr. Miller and you have not been cooperative in this committee.”
LOL! Yeah right!
Hmmm. miller huddling with lawyers during break...who are they?
I’m sure the mainstream media will give this all the attention deserves, maybe about 10 seconds after going on for twenty minutes about who won American Idol.
Well, he think he covered himself in his opening statement with nonsense about two days’ notice not giving him time to prepare.
Reichert looked good. Got Miller to say he did not remember a name, kept pressing Miller, and then Miller gave him a name. What a smirk he had though.
Duh, uh, I dunno... Can’t find his butt with both hands tied behind his back. If this were you or I, we’d be water boarded by now.
Wish he was in audience just because....
This guy Reichert from Washington state did a pretty good job of tearing Miller a new one. He pretty much told him to his face that he was not only a liar but an incompetent one at that. Miller equivocated and wouldn’t answer questions directly. He’s a weasel. He looks like a weasel too.
I hope one of his cronies concedes their time BACK so he can continue his questioning.
He’s a take no prisoners kind of guy!
He said earlier that they were his lawyers.
Yep..he did better than all of the rest.
