When Americans think of the federal government taking on locals to combat racism, they think of Ike sending troops into a Little Rock high school, of JFK sending the National Guard to Ole Miss or LBJ announcing on television the FBI’s arrest of Klansmen for killing a Freedom Rider.
Now the Obama administration is arguing that the leafy hamlets of Westchester County are guilty of their own racial discrimination. And the Department of Housing and Urban Development is using all the power it has to bring the locals to heel.
The leverage comes from a 2009 consent decree designed to counter what HUD says is housing discrimination. The decree obligates Westchester to build 750 units of “affordable” housing in high-income, largely white neighborhoods and “market them aggressively” to minorities. The county is doing so, and is even ahead of schedule.
That hasn’t satisfied HUD, because it’s really after something different: a standard of discrimination based on statistics, not actual demonstrations of people who have been denied housing because of race. It’s called “disparate impact.”
In other words, what we have here is social engineering. As one of its officials has admitted, HUD wants “to remove zip codes as a factor in the quality of life in America.” In other words, anyone has the right to live anywhere — even if he can’t afford it. So even though blacks and Hispanics and other racial minorities who can afford Westchester housing prices are as welcome as anyone, HUD sees only racism.
Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino has been fighting this, and losing, for some years. The latest wrinkle was a threat from Justice to hold Astorino in contempt if he did not introduce legislation that would require landlords to accept Section 8 vouchers — public assistance — for rentals.

When I lived in the SF bay area they were doing this; I don’t know if it was HUD forcing the issue. Needless to say, some of the residents that were all for “diversity” before were not too happy with the crime and property devaluation after they moved in.
Some folks are giving a good shot at fighting it. It needs to be done at the local level, and takes time and work.
This is great news, all those leftists up there have been aiding fascists in the last few decades, now they get to really feel good. I hope they move one family next to each and every liberal there.
Tell HUD to screw off. Capitulation only emboldens them to make ever increasing demands.
“If you have something others have a right to it” is the credo of Democrats/socialists/communists - and thieves.
“It’s Agenda 21 and there’s no way to stop it.”
There’s a way to stop it, but it requires conservatives getting off their fat, comfortable asses and organizing.
For example, when the liberal, left-wing village council decides to raise property taxes, conservatives need to show up at the village council and tell them hell no.
When the schoolboard wants to teach 6-year-old kids how to slide a rubber onto a cucumber, conservatives need to show and say hell no.
I was in local government for nearly 20 years and begging so-called conservatives to attend local village meetings was like asking Dracula to show up at a sunrise worship ceremony.
Damn conservatives were more interested in barbecuing ribs, remodeling their kitchens and chasing mammon.
How about some high rise projects behind Bill and Hillary’s house?

I live in a very nice older country club area. Many years ago across the main street from us the condos and apartments went Section 8. Now it is a ghetto and if you look at the crime map....holy smoke! The saving grace is they totally leave us alone.
The local big city has a section 8 mess located on the edge of town. Developers put up condos next door. I met someone who owned one of the condos. He said it was like the condo developemnt was a shopping mall for the section 8 crowd.
The fence between the two is formidable now and the the condos are gated with security.
Please put it next door to the Clinton’s.
love to see that and lets see how they like their diversity and helping the poor once they see the crime, drugs, gangs and property prices go down.
yet they say “no” to school vouchers...how very hypocritically liberal of them....
They do the same thing where I own property. When a unit in the neighborhood sells for $30k or more less because it is price controlled, it drives down the appraisal on a comparable unit, or the owner has to spend energy explaining that reason.

However in summary:
Countywide, Obama handily won Westchester with 240,785 votes, 62 percent. Romney received 143,122, 37 percent.
Votes for other presidential candidates: Gary Johnson, Libertarian, 2,042; Jill Stein, Green Party, 1,627; Virgil Goode, Constitution Party, 228; and Peta Lindsay (Party for Socialism and Liberation), 76.
Their current County Executive Rob Astorino is Republican however.
That’s one of those new fake crumbling house. It looks so bad, not even thieves and house invaders will touch it. Hidden under the ruined exterior is a luxury home. Brilliant idea!
I haven’t figured out why they leave our neighborhood alone other than a main busy highway separates us and we are kind of offset back against the golf course and there is only a small windy road coming into the neighborhood. Although if you ever leave anything outside it will be gone.
