The Senate delivered a devastating blow to President Obamas agenda to regulate guns Wednesday by defeating a bipartisan proposal to expand background checks. It failed by a vote of 54 to 46, with 5 Democrats voting against it. Only 4 Republicans supported it. Democratic Sens. Mark Pryor (Ark.), Max Baucus (Mont.), Heidi Heitkamp (N.D.), Mark Begich (Alaska) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (Nev.) voted against it. Reid supported the measure but voted against it to preserve his ability to bring the measure up again. GOP Sens. John McCain (Ariz.), Susan Collins (Maine), Pat Toomey (Pa.) and Mark Kirk

For once, Boehner actually implemented a strategy that worked. He let the Senate duke it out, water it down and still fail to get the votes. Hopefully, we see this hold up and avoid any legislation at all out of the Senate.

After a non-stop pummeling from politicians everywhere and the media every. single. day., the people still prvailed. After all the sympathy plays with the children, the parents of dead children, and of course Gabby Gifford, senators were still not swayed.
This is an utter failure for the left. The bill they pulled out of their “waiting for an opportunity” drawer when they heard that shots were fired in a school, is going down to defeat!

Boston bombing, perhaps?
Did it wake people up to the fact that government can’t and won’t protect us?

Possibly. Whatever stiffened repulican spines, most did not buckle. Just the usual turncoats and Toomey of course.

Reid supported the measure but voted against it to preserve his ability to bring the measure up again.

And to Obozo’s never letting a “good crisis go to waste.” About 6 months too late - some people are recognizing their mistake, and the pathetic pandering of Zero’s minions to take advantage of tragedies has worn out its welcome.

Obama and all the other usual Dem suspects are nothing but Tragedy Pimps. They trot out tragic victims to get emotional responses instead letting people vote their logical choices. Mark Kelly fits this category, too. Everyone is heartbroken for the victims of senseless violence but using their situation to manipulate the masses crosses the line. I have come to the conclusion that most Dems have no conscience. Their motto ‘by any means necessary’ has taken on new meaning when they use those weakened by tragedy to further their own Political agenda.

In 1941, U.S. Attorney General Robert Jackson called on Congress to enact national registration of all firearms. Given events in Europe, Congress recoiled, and legislation was introduced to protect the Second Amendment. Rep. Edwin Arthur Hall explained: "Before the advent of Hitler or Stalin, who took power from the German and Russian people, measures were thrust upon the free legislatures of those countries to deprive the people of the possession and use of firearms, so that they could not resist the encroachments of such diabolical and vitriolic state police organizations as the Gestapo, the Ogpu, and the Cheka."

Rep. John W. Patman added: "The people have a right to keep arms; therefore, if we should have some Executive who attempted to set himself up as dictator or king, the people can organize themselves together and, with the arms and ammunition they have, they can properly protect themselves. . . ."
