Kentucky Sen. Rand Pauls threat to filibuster any new gun restrictions is gathering steam, as a dozen of his Republican colleagues have now signed onto his plan.
The Kentucky Republican and Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Mike Lee (R-Utah) first wrote to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid late last month to warn him of their intention to try to tie up the Senate if, as planned, Reid moved forward with legislation that would expand background checks and attempt to crack down on interstate gun trafficking.
Reid is expected to bring a gun-control bill to the floor as early as next week, or perhaps the following week, and Paul is renewing his vow to try to block the measure. Pauls follow-up letter, obtained by POLITICO, bears Mondays date and is signed by 13 Republicans, including fellow potential 2016 presidential aspirant Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) who signed on shortly after Pauls first threat was issued and National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman Jerry Moran of Kansas.
While Paul gained a new measure of fame among libertarian-minded voters on the right and left during a recent filibuster sparked by the administrations policy of targeted drone strikes, Reid has an ace in the hole. A new Senate rule would allow him to circumvent a filibuster on the motion to proceed to the gun bill by promising each party two amendments on the legislation. Under that scenario, Paul and his allies would still get a chance to raise their objections on the floor for hours on end, but they couldnt stop the Senate from starting debate on the bill.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) has said he wont support a filibuster if Reid promises to allow for amendments on the floor.

McCain’s sidekick wimps out.
No need for the quotation marks. The mask has fallen off of the Republican Party forever.
Yes, there are Conservatives IN the Republican Party, but that's not too common these days.
All Senators represent communist cities, while not all Congressmen have that problem. That's why the founders originally had it right by having them selected by the state legislatures.
Bump!
About time a few of these people did what we put them there to do.
NO MORE GUN CONTROL.
And now that you have extra time on your hands?
Bring back US jobs from China.
Well, lookie what we have here.
A “libertarian” calling together a group filibuster.
Where are the “conservative” senators? Still talking about “amendments” and “process” and “reasonable” and all that twaddle.
“Conservatives,” tell me again why you’re bad-mouthing Rand Paul. Please tell me again how these “libertarians” are so bad. And while you’re at it, please show me how the “conservative” leadership (including Cantor, Boehner, McCain, et al) are actually standing up for my rights.
What you said..
I think that, in combination with the government running the education of nearly all children, is why America is in a terminally broken condition.
Thanks for the ping!
I hope this happens, because I really appreciate having the opportunity to get a good, close look in action at those politicians who are willing to stand and defend our constitutional rights.
Apparently there are only 13 senators worthy of their title, and they deserve recognition for that.
Rand Paul - Kentucky
Ted Cruz - Texas
Mike Lee - Utah
Marco Rubio - Florida
Jerry Moran - Kansas
Jim Inhofe - Oklahoma
Richard Burr - N. Carolina
Ron Johnson - Wisconsin
Mike Enzi - Wyoming
Jim Risch - Idaho
Mike Crapo - Idaho
Dan Coats - Indiana
Pat Roberts - Kansas
(Go, Idaho! Represent!)
Damn good point.

There is a line and ANY support of ANY kind of gun control is my line.
Such legislation totally not need, it’s nothing but a power grab, it will not stop criminals of any kind.
Any politician that gets involved in such a thing will never get my support, even if it means not voting at all.
AMEN! Sorry for yelling.
My sentiments exactly...quickest way for a politician to get blacklisted in my book....Amnesty and citizenship for illegal Mexicans after that.
Praying for a Ted Cruz clone to come forth and primary this RINO!!
I don’t include Rubio in that book. What I’ve heard him say about illegals and “meaningful reform” on that makes me want to puke. If he is anything like that with ‘meaningful gun reform” he can just suck it.
Rand Paul gives me hope there’s a peaceful way to restore America. The hard part is getting the SoCon wing on board in 2016.
He doesn’t give me ‘hope’...Like Rubio, I also heard him comment about illegal immigration. His comments regarding “we already have defacto acceptance” (or equivalent) isn’t an excuse to appease on Democrats’ stand on it. As far as I’m concerned, both he and Rubio are listening to those same no-ball bastard consultants that bilked McCain and Romney out of some serious cash talking about relaxation of ideals, the ‘ooohhhh’ Hispanic vote, and all the other oooga booga we can’t win if we stick to our traditional ideals. Hell no....Hell fracking NO!
I loved that show as a kid.
