LIVE on C-SPAN2: Senate Session
(Excerpt) Read more at c-span.org ...
First Mike Lee and now Ted Cruz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes - someone can tag in... or NOT... and the filibuster can continue.
Why do I say “not?” Because in recent years, filibusters have been entirely notional - a simple threat to continue talking. If the Senate doesn’t think it has the vote for cloture, they simply move on to other business and no real filibuster takes place.
This is a bold move by Rand as, typically, the senator who has the floor is afforded the opportunity to continue speaking before the motion for cloture is made. If there is a general belief that the cloture votes WON’T be made, then another senator COULD tag in.... or NOT... and the senate moves on to other business.
If there is a belief cloture will be made, it will come when Rand exhausts himself.
Rand Paul, Mike Lee, and Ted Cruz. The Tea Party shines brightly this day.
I am calling my GOP senator to encourge particpation, not that there is a chance in hell, and I am calling all the particpant’s offices to encourge them and thank them for addressing these concerns about our rights as citizens.
It's great to see that Rand Paul has some worthy back-up in this filibuster. I've read a lot about Ted Cruz, but haven't had much opportunity to watch him in action.
That's one of the things I really like about filibusters. It gives me a chance to see some of these guys in a more unscripted setting...no teleprompters, minimal notes...how long can you speak about Constitutional issues and what are your abilities to spontaneously articulate conservative principles?
Paul Rand has been doing quite well. Ted Cruz is looking more than capable as well.
I hope this goes on for a lot longer.
Thank you for clarifying this.
Who is this new guy?
Now Sen Jerry Moran!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What good does this do?
Glad these men don’t feel like you do..........apathy is part of the problem. Maybe one or ten Senators hearing this will change their mind on voting for cloture!!!!!!!!!!
I turned it on and watched 2 hours. Couldn’t put it down.
I really really like Paul. He brought up some very troubling points.
Ted Cruz chimed in and Sen. from Utah and Kansas.
Fascinating and instructive.
I agree, blueyou. Rand is bringing attention to the killing Americans at home with drones. Brennan wouldn’t really answer - in fact he said there were no geographical boundaries to using this power.
Cruz up asking what is the remedy if a drone is used and they are innocent. Then he makes the point that if that American IS a terrorist and is killed with a drone, then there will be no interrogation. This in fact would undermine our ability to get further info to make us safer.
Now Cruz brings up the Alamo and how those patriots died for freedom. says Texans are proud that Paul (a native born Texan?) is standing up for freedom!
BFD. Paul will end up voting to confirm Brennan, just as he did Hagel and Kerry. Remarkable.
Best afternoon I’ve spent in front of the tube in years!!!!
This is how you get to know your leaders. Who speaks for us? Rand Paul sure as heck is. And so is Ted Cruz. Awesome job, gentlemen.
Paul brings up the fact that it’s not good enough for the president or Holder to say they don’t INTEND to use it against Americans sitting in a cafe.....
Now Cruz reads a letter from the Alamo (giving Paul a break)
(What can Cruz read next to give Paul a break?.....he should start taking requests!)
BFD. Paul will end up voting to confirm Brennan, just as he did Hagel and Kerry. Remarkable.
Paul has used the fact he voted for Hagel and Kerry as a Cudgel for attacking the other Dims, I think he may have done it so he could use it to shame the Dims into attacking Obama...
He’s up right now!! This just keeps getting better.
it’s a simple question, are you going to shoot at US citizens without due process????
Patrick Henry’s 20th of March 1775 speech. That should be next up.
I am watching him right now, now that is a brave Senator he is a liberal democrat, questioning the regime? God Bless Wyden.
