Hours before President Obama is set to deliver a major immigration speech, a key Republican senator blasted the president for reportedly opposing a requirement to shore up border security before legalizing up to 11 million illegal immigrants.
Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., one of four Republican senators involved in a bipartisan effort to craft immigration reform legislation, warned the president Tuesday against taking such a position. It was the first sign since the senators unveiled their guidelines a day earlier of friction between the two efforts.
"I think that would be a terrible mistake," Rubio told Fox News. "We have a bipartisan group of senators that have agreed to that. For the president to try to move the goalposts on that specific requirement, as an example, does not bode well in terms of what his role's going to be in this or the outcome."

You’re comfortable with 20 million poor, third world illegals becoming voting citizens who will then bring in another 20 or 30 million family members who will vote democratic & kill the GOP....ok.
How the heck could Obama be against border security? Isn’t the first job of the President to defend the nation’s border and keep the citizens safe? And then he expects U.S. citizens to disarm as the drug cartels push their rackets further over the border?
Rubio favors amnesty but is ambitious for higher office and therefore, to try not to offend conservatives, is trying to triangulate by his talk on immigration enforcement.
As many FReepers have pointed out, it doesn’t matter how many more immigration laws you put on the books if they’re never enforced. It’s like the “Raise Taxes/Cut Spending Deals” where Republicans agree to raise taxes now in return for spending cuts in the “out years” that never come. And yet these Republicans can’t figure this out?
Yep. Great plan. Reward invading barbarians with no loyalty to this country with a green card, anchor babies, chain immgration, welfare and “a path to citizenship.” Let ‘em jump line over the folks who are stupid enough to obey the law. Don’t defend the border, where they just found an Iranian book on suicide bombers.
What a wonderful effin’ plan.
Obama doesn’t have to destroy the ‘Pubbies. The ‘Pubbies are doin’ a great job all by themselves.
They can’t secure the border. Doing that would upset the entire applecart! Look, when the millions of illegal become ‘legal’, they are NOT going to do the crap jobs, they’ll get welfare instead and that border has to be open for more illegal aliens who will do it.
Idiot, Rubio. So sick of the Stupid Party.
Rubio knows this as well. His 'outrage' is window dressing - if he's sincere he'll throw the brakes on the entire scheme.
I'm tired of this game the GOPe plays with this issue. At least the Kenyan Kommie is being up front.
“Yep. Great plan. Reward invading barbarians with no loyalty to this country with a green card, anchor babies, chain immgration, welfare and a path to citizenship.”
Isn’t that an amazing thing? The FIRST thing we tell these law breakers is that they aren’t expected to follow our laws!
This is a recipe for anarchy.
I’m tired of these pols thinking that 0 wants to fix any problems. He doesn’t want to solve this issue. At best he wants to drive a wedge between conservatives and their reps. At worst he wants to completely destroy the country....
Breathe, okay, everything is going to be fine.
Secure border means: Secure border. What is not clear about that? My point simply is you can't trust a Democratic -- That IS exceptionally clear.
How is it that many of us can sit miles away and see the obvious but a guy like Rubio just can’t get it?
This sh*t happens over and over and “Republicans” take the fool’s bait every time.
Rubio has more loyalty to illegals than to the Constitution or current citizens.
Another injection of entitlement seekers for Obamacare and other programs is exactly what this country needs right.
Rubio and the rest of amnesty bootlickers are disgusting. I’m not sure if I’m more ashamed that they are in the GOP, or more ashamed that I’m still registered with the GOP.
“Rubio is a smart guy, and so far I am fairly comfortable with his plan.”
Yours is the only rational comment on this thread! Everyone else just starts “gassing” at the drop of a hat it would seem! Thanks for engaging your brain prior to putting your mouth into gear!
Because they are NOT true Conservatives.
No Conservative would ever "negotiate" with the Marxist.
True Conservatives would take undertake to use every parliamentary rule to stop ALL proposals and radical appointments by this tyrant.
If the Schumer/McCain/Rubio immigration plan somehow gets into a bill that reaches Os desk he will sign it.
Until that happens Obama can run around on AF1 calling for the ‘fast path’ to their citizenship and their vote(for Dems) , once again one-upping (out-bidding) Republicans with Hispanics.
They will never win the racial (victim Demo group) bidding game with Obama.
Deport Rubio!
These PhonyCons are butt-stupid.....Obama hasgot the RINOs by the nads. If there is Amnesty....Obama takes credit....If Amnesty fails....Obama blames the GOP
We already have anarchy, or rather anarcho-tyranny. It is easier to enforce the law against the law abiding. Gun control affects the only law abiding, not criminals. Illegals don’t have to obey laws like insurance, drivers licenses, etc.
Go figure.
Rubio's plan may look good as an academic exercise 100 years ago. Rubio's plan in the reality of today is a total absolute disaster.
Rubio is either lying to Conservatives or is naive beyond words.
Either way he will destroy his chances to ever run as a Conservative.
Years back I heard Rubio speak on immigration and he sounded much, much closer to the left. I believe Rubio crafted his plan to purposely fool Conservatives.
Rubio has to know and be comfortable with the fact that the Marxist will likely get his way --- Essentially complete Amnesty, less security along the border and millions more RAT voters pouring into our dying Republic.
