New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly says handguns are the main problem on New York City streets when it comes to gun violence.
In an interview Sunday on CBS' "Face the Nation," Kelly said he supported an assault weapon ban, but that in New York City, "the problem is the handgun."
He said 60 percent of murders in the city are done by handguns.

Bears repeating. Unfortunately, politicians are either unaware of this, or (more likely) don't care and just want to ban guns period.
This can’t be true. It’s illegal to carry a handgun in NYC...it must be black assault rifles, got to be black, they’re more deadly than the shiny ones.
Well, for goodness’ sake, Kelly, pass a law against handguns, and all the criminals will hurry to turn them all in.

Since handguns are so dangerous and there is already a law against carrying them in NYC, why don’t the police and the security details of rich give up their guns too? Ray Kelly suffers what many others in the ruling government elite suffer from. They are hypocrites. In their minds, only the special people are allowed to have guns. The average law-abiding citizen is left defenseless against the thugs who don’t care what laws are passed. The police usually arrive in time to etch the chalk lines at the crime scene.
Why doesn’t this runt Kelly set an example and have his 30,000 officer department get rid of their “assault” weapons?
Heard Piers Morgan's show a day or so ago as he had Newt Gingrich on. Piers brought up the murder of a family in New Mexico a day or so before that - the 15 yr. old son killed the mom and two or three younger children with a 22 rifle - waited until the dad got home and killed him with an AR 15. Piers skipped over the 22 rifle, flubbed saying “22” so you weren't sure he said “22”, then quickly jumped on the AR 15. He never mentioned the 22 after that one flub.
He didn't care the 22 rifle killed all but one of them - he only cared about that one kill with the AR 15. That is his goal - no matter how many people are killed in Chicago with handguns, or people are killed by a 22 rifle or a shotgun, the only “bad” gun is a scary looking AR 15.

Our street was hit a few days ago by two thugs who tried to steal packages from doorsteps. We live in a low-crime small town outside Reading Pa. In addition to the two bums being caughte 15 minutes later, one of my neighbors is now in the hunt for his first firearm—I am steering him to a short barrel Mossberg pump shotgun (like the one under my bed).
The “main problem” in NYC is an over abundance of barbarians and sociopaths.
I can’t remember the last time a legal handgun was used by anyone in NYC to commit a crime. The criminals have no trouble buying guns in the street however.
This is something that needs to be pointed out.
Their “solution” has nothing or very little to do with the “problem” THAT THEY ARE PUTTING FORTH.
They need to be called on it - “YOU HAVE ANOTHER GOAL THAN YOU ARE STATING”.
