The so called “Birth Control Pill” which I believe Jindal is talking about is the common one whereby there is no ovulation and therefore no egg to fertilize.

On what do you base your belief that he is referring to that type of pill? Did I miss something in the article? Not that it matters, we were discussing why the Catholic Church objects to BCP use. Making them available over-the-counter would relieve the Church and its members from being forced to pay for them unwillingly. Your “belief” about what Jindal meant is immaterial to the discussion. Agree or disagree, the Catholic Church has every right to practice its religious beliefs without government or non-member input.
But every woman who asks gets the prescription, it has nothing to do with being “diagnosed”, and once they have it, they get refills for the rest of their lives.
So really, the doctor visit is just government imposing an extra cost.
Of course, nothing stops a woman from seeing a doctor before starting birth control. This is about free choice.
Frankly, I think a LOT of prescription drugs should be OTC instead.
And while they are at it.... OTC Viagra and Cialis!
I didn’t understand what this has to do with being Catholic.
It’s not like a Doctor is going to abstain from prescribing the pill to a woman if she is Catholic.
So making it OTC or having it a prescription is completely separate from whether the drug should be used or not.
A Catholic who didn’t get the prescription will now NOT buy the OTC medicine.
I don’t think we want to enforce religious beliefs on others by making costs higher. So I don’t see the religious significance of this statement.
The Catholic Church is against birth control pills because they have a religious objection to birth control. They are against condoms as well, and condoms have nothing to do with abortion.
condoms are over the counter. Women should keep their legs together until they get married...That was the way of life until the 60’s. Females have gotten dumber since then.

There is no reliable study that shows this too be true. It's been a theory.
Absolutely. That escapes many where who are trying to attack Jindal on religious grounds. Ridiculous... he's offering a way to protect The Church from gov't interference.
Depends on the method chosen. Like the depo shots are a 5 years usage tops for their life time. And if your doctor is doing their job there’s supposed to at least be a discussion once a year to make sure you’re not having side effects on your prescriptions. My wife has had reactions to at least 2 versions of the pill, that’s part of why it’s handy that it’s a prescription.
And I know someone who took them a promptly died. A lot of dangerous side effects. Should not be over the counter.
Most all Catholics I have known have used birth control. That is their decision. I do not judge them. And this is not a “woman” issue. Most men want to have family planning and the choice of how many children they have. Again, this is their decision. I never understood the idea of making birth control against the law that was suggested in the primaries. No one ..or very few people, would vote for that. Makes no sense.Birth control should not even be considered by a politician. None of their business.

No, every woman does not get it. Many, many adverse side effects. Many risks.
Women? What about men? They have no responsibility in this?
