Researchers from Toyota Central Research and Development Laboratories performed an independent replication of a Mitsubishi low-energy nuclear reaction transmutation experiment, according to a physicist from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries speaking at the American Nuclear Society LENR session on Nov. 14 in San Diego, Calif.
The physicist, Yasuhiro Iwamura, told the ANS audience that the Toyota researchers confirmed that nuclear changes from one element to another took place without the use of high-energy nuclear physics. Most scientists who have not followed this field closely consider such profound claims inconceivable. Toyota used a LENR deuterium-permeation transmutation method that Iwamura invented.
Iwamura has been working with this LENR method for 14 years. He said that one of his LENR transmutations was closely but not identically replicated by Toyota. Osaka University and Iwate University previously reported similar replications.

In all cases the transmutations of elements to other elements with higher atomic numbers were achieved at room temperature and one atmosphere of pressure by means of deuterium diffusion through a multilayer thin film sandwich of palladium (Pd) and Calcium Oxide (CaO).
Much of Krivit's article is "behind a paywall", but the video of Iwamura's paper presentation at an American Nuclear Society meeting (with Krivit presiding) can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VefCEaLAkRw&feature=player_embedded.
Iwamura's Japanese-accented English is quite good, but may be difficult to follow. His figures and explanation, however are quite convincing.
IMO, as a physical chemist, I find this straightforward report of serious, replicated research on LENR physics to be a welcome change from the hype that frequently accompanies discussions of "cold fusion"...
In what amounts were the transmutations?........
Any word on turning lead or mercury into gold?
I like that one. Alchemy rulz!
Of course the Chinese and others are working on turning Au into W.
Sounds like Cold Fusion.
And what does this all mean in terms of impact on daily life?
I notice that most of the transmutations are across two atomic weights. In that case, to get gold you have to start with iridium. Unfortunately, there aint a lot of iridium floating around on earth.......
This makes me wonder about something. Currently, it is believed that all the elements on the earth were created in supernova. Is it possible that this transmutation may happen naturally, and at least some of our heavier elements came to be on their own in 4.5 billion years?
I'll watch and (laboriously) listen to the video again to see what else I can extract...

FWIW, I'm going offline for an hour or more now...
If it is true, PLATINUM is going to get very cheap........
Indeed, it does...
Whatever heavy elements were in our neighborhood 4.5 billion years ago were mostly sucked up by the Sun and outer planets. The ones like gold and uranium, lead, etc. probably sank into the molten core of the earth when it’s surface was still molten, only to be diffused into the mantle and eventually the crust through volcanic action over the epochs.........
Yes, thank you for reminding me........The last chemistry class I had was in 1971........
Trivial impact -- sort of like that of "E=MC2"... </SARCASM>
Does this mean I get a nuclear powered Tundra?
E = mc^2 is why you have the Internet and the entire planet connected today.
I haven’t been following LENR, but this would seem to be a Big F’n Deal, to quote Plugs.
Even if the energy output is less than the input, being able to change elements like this would seem to be pretty extraordinary under these conditions.
