Exclusive: Barbara Simpson exposes nationwide 'dumbing down of America's children'
Snip:
They explained classes would be reconfigured, curriculum content was being revised, teachers are being retrained on how to teach and what to teach, how every student would have a laptop, books were to be virtually phased out but some new books would be created for this whole new education system.
We were told it would take a couple of years to get everything in place, but by the time that happens, it would be in every school and every grade in California.
There was no question of refusing because the governor had agreed to it. Its happening, and no one is exempted. Its called the Common Core Curriculum, and its a national program, courtesy of the Obama administration. In fact, it will affect all schools from K-12th grade.
Until that point, Id never heard of it, and there had been nothing in local newspapers and only one column since. Parents have virtually no idea whats being planned for their children, especially since practically no one attends board meetings.
But then there was Obama himself during the debate moderated by Bob Schieffer who was talking about that hes accomplished, and he said: You know, under my leadership, what weve done is reformed education, working with governors, 46 states. He said bad schools were improving.
I couldnt believe it! He said it! But no one called him on it. No media pursued what he was talking about. No one wondered why not all 50 states were involved. No one asked what it meant
I found out.
Most traditional fictional literature, classics and poetry are eliminated. Nothing long, only short pieces Children will read whats described as informational texts, government reports, computer manuals and technical bulletins.

Not that I experienced.
I don’t actually recall anyone ever being told what they were doing didn’t meet state qualifications on content.
We never had any trouble with the school district nor did any other of the homeschoolers we knew.
Matter of fact, as I got to know the homsechool liaison people, they actually did what they could to help us.
Thanks for the link :)
I work for one of the largest standardized testing companies in the US, and this Common Core stuff is big on our radar. We are working with the ACT company to grab this business, so you can bet there will be incentive to make the curriculum jive with the college entrance exams.
DeMint and Heritage must reconsider this stand.
No, the way it should be done is the tax dollars should pass through the hands of the parents to be used for the education of their children, not directly to the private schools.
That claim that the state dollars require common core curriculum is bogus anyway because parochial schools have been allowed to use public school buses and public school facilities since I was in school. The Catholic school kids used our planetarium and swimming pool and there was no curriculum requirement.
I don’t care what one liberal judge said in Louisiana.
Choice and Charters are creating a REGIONAL system. Control moves closer and closer to full FEDERAL Top-Down control. A SOVIET system, if you will.
NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND was a carefully chosen descriptor of the system. Race to The TOP speaks for itself, doesn't it? Any child being educated outside of the system in Private or Parochial or Home Sghool situation WILL be brought IN. Remember "NO" child will be left behind.
Elected school boards sit on the same side of the negotiating table as the union teachers. End the union hold on the public school system and the problem would disappear. Race to the Top has no power to change settled law.
The left keeps talking about “settled law” in regard to abortion, but when it comes to the union stranglehold on education, the left ignores the concept. The race to the top also advocated ending the pay for advanced degrees and teacher tenure, but I don’t see you defending those concepts.
I homeschooled in CA. The state had nothing to do with what we taught. I was in an umbrella school, and wrote up a year-end report which became part of my son’s records.
Land of the Free and all...
I homeschooled my four children. My fourth child is taking a combo of G&T highschool classes and homeschool classes this year. She told me that her education at home directly contributes to her understanding and excellent grades in class. I focused on Shakespeare, The Greeks and the Bible in our lit education. When you know these you know the human condtion, human fraility, human courage and human kindness.
This is my fourth child to tell me that his or her education was superior and stands out in highschool and in college.
Yes, it is a terrific way to teach (I had earlier taught in the classroom). I learned so much. My son and his new, young wife are pregnant and are intending to homeschool their child.
There were many things I didn’t get to, and also things I would have done differently. I finally figured that maybe the only thing I could teach our son, really, was how to think for himself, and that he’d have 60 years to learn everything else.
