Exclusive: Barbara Simpson exposes nationwide 'dumbing down of America's children'
Snip:
They explained classes would be reconfigured, curriculum content was being revised, teachers are being retrained on how to teach and what to teach, how every student would have a laptop, books were to be virtually phased out but some new books would be created for this whole new education system.
We were told it would take a couple of years to get everything in place, but by the time that happens, it would be in every school and every grade in California.
There was no question of refusing because the governor had agreed to it. Its happening, and no one is exempted. Its called the Common Core Curriculum, and its a national program, courtesy of the Obama administration. In fact, it will affect all schools from K-12th grade.
Until that point, Id never heard of it, and there had been nothing in local newspapers and only one column since. Parents have virtually no idea whats being planned for their children, especially since practically no one attends board meetings.
But then there was Obama himself during the debate moderated by Bob Schieffer who was talking about that hes accomplished, and he said: You know, under my leadership, what weve done is reformed education, working with governors, 46 states. He said bad schools were improving.
I couldnt believe it! He said it! But no one called him on it. No media pursued what he was talking about. No one wondered why not all 50 states were involved. No one asked what it meant
I found out.
Most traditional fictional literature, classics and poetry are eliminated. Nothing long, only short pieces Children will read whats described as informational texts, government reports, computer manuals and technical bulletins.

I don’t know. Regulations vary from state to state.
I’m in NY and we were required to teach certain subjects but have the freedom to pick the curriculum or plan of instruction. The district didn’t approve it or disapprove it, only let us know if it met state standards.
It’s a kind of fine line differentiating between that and approval and disapproval, but they couldn’t tell us not to use it, but rather where it needed to be supplemented.
CA homeschoolers would be the ones to best answer that question, so I’m pinging out the list.
I got an error page when I tried to access Cscope.com.
Now this is weird. I can’t get your link (http://www.txscopereview.com/) to open, and I can’t get the link in the email I posted to open either.
?????
Yeah, I know. I'm having the same trouble. Jane Long posted an alternate link upthread, and that one won't open either.
?????
we homeschoolers in California have NO regulations... no curricula approval... nada... no state standards to meet... we are treated as private schools... so we submit an R4 Affidavit once a year to document our intention to run our homeschool/private school... that is it...
we are raising our two sons on the classics... we began the moment we brought them home... they are four years apart... instead of trying to save money and have our younger son use his brothers books, we purchase each our of boys their own, so they each can have at least the start of their own collections when they leave the nest... (we do reuse math books, science books, the text-type books)...
Good to hear. These days, mention of Robert Conquest, Roger Kimball, Chantal Delsol and others like them get a blank stare.
Our respective hardcopy libraries are one of the most valuable things we have.
we too...
Someone mentioned the fact that more and more library holdings are sitting on a server somewhere, or up in "the cloud". And I thought, "hmmmmm ..... "
Winston Smith nowadays wouldn't have a "memory hole" -- just a "delete" button.
Oh, let me guess. George Sand and Jane Austen to be "supplemented" by 155 hours of reading in Andrea Dworkin, bell hooks, Catharine Mackinnon, Naomi Wolf, and Germaine Greer. Like that?
(Notice I've got my black lesbian covered, so I'm racially and GBLT-inclusive. Death to WASPs!)
I tried it, and it works.
Well, I just tried and got a a message that requested document does not exist on this server.
This was mentioned on FR. If only everyone read FR, they would not be taken by surprise by this and by the other things Obama has sneaked into bills.
Rudy Crew, former Education Commissioner of NYC and now in Florida, if he’s still there, talked about the supposed need for a national curriculum years ago at a book signing in NYC. I saw the dangers then. His justification was that other countries were “eating our lunch” in science and math.
An increased emphasis on science and math is not a bad thing, but not as a law, which is unconstitutional in the extreme, and only with the will of those involved and affected.
The de-emphasis on literature is sinister, as our culture is transmitted through literature. It is not just pretty poems and engrossing stories. I’m sure some literature will be allowed: prison writings and the voices of the “oppressed.” The great works of world literature will be a loss not only for their beauty and power to ennoble the mind but for their continuity with the world of our fathers as well.
I hadn’t heard that he had the educational testing services on board. That is the final nail in the coffin. They should soon be talking about PQ, progressiveness quotient, instead of IQ.
Good point. You don’t have to burn the books, you just have to out-tech them.
When will OB make Ayers the secretary of ed?
That's weird. It opened for me not fifteen minutes ago. Just tried it again, and it's working fine. Here's the URL again:
God help us. The snake charmer.
.............we should include the title Terrorist Leader every time we mention Ayer’s name.
Something similar to “Little Timmy the Tax Cheat Geithner.” I love that one.
If I had more energy I would offer a parody, Congress Carol, with Little Timmy as the hero.
