We are Katrina says one desperate resident. Everyone cares about Manhattan. No one is looking out for us.
At a 12-unit apartment building at West 23rd near Mermaid Avenue in Coney Island, several tenants are huddled together in one room where human waste is spilling out of the toilet. They need help, and are at a loss explaining why assistance is getting to them faster.
"We have no food or water. Why isn't anyone helping us," asked tenant Aeising Cancel.
"We are scavenging for food like animals," said another tenant Jeffery Francis. "We are in a crisis and no one will help us. Look at us. We are misery. Everyone cares about Manhattan. No one is looking out for us. Nothing. We are Katrina."
At an apartment building at 3024 W 23rd the power is still out and residents are out of food.
"The food is gone. We are scrapping for food. One person found a sandwich and we split it four ways," said resident 58-year-old Albert Miller

The people in lower Manhattan are in pretty much the same situation, and there are many more of them. They too have no electricity, no water, no heat and no cell phone service.
Seriously? 3days later and you are already out of food? Did that storm sneak up on you? Oh wait, you are the guys who expect everything to be handled by Big Brother...
How many days warning did these people have?
We live in Cleveland and prepared for the storm.
When you are a grown up...you look out for yourself.
Time for some air drops?
What, the ObamaPhones are out of service?
True. But they can walk uptown and have dinner. Granted it's a mile or two. Haven't seen any apartment buildings toppled in Lower Manhattan either.
“human waste is spilling out of the toilet”
Jeez, find a bucket, get some water, and pour it down the toilet.
To lazy to flush the tiolet with waste water? There’s friggin water everywhere.
We had at least a weeks worth of water and non-perishable food at the ready just in case we needed it.
It wasn't hard to do either with three days warning of impending doom...
I just wonder why Oblunder didn't just wave his hand over all of the destruction and make it go away? /s
You win.
Isn’t FEMA there yet?
Didn’t Obama personally take charge of all the relief efforts? He certainly took credit when it looked like it might be good. So this is his fault.
Sandy-starved New Yorkers Dumpster Dive.
well now they are out of food the solid waste amounts should go down.
boy i have to take a walk or something. my cynicism overload light is flashing.
The only thing missing........no 24/7 unhinged journalists demanding to know how Bush let this happen.
A telephone contractor friend just today told me that he pulled his crews out of these “projects’ because some of the residents were using their trucks for target practice.
He said he told the local telephone co to use their own people he wasn’t sending his crews back there
Many people live on high floors. The stairwells are completely dark. If you are elderly or disabled, you can’t walk down 20 flights of stairs, especially if your flashlight battery has died.
I expect that when the power comes back on, they will find a few dead bodies in some of those apartments
Funny how the journalists can get to them without a problem.
Oh, yeah....easy for you to say. Buckets probably grow on trees where you live. Go get water? I can’t...the streets are flooded! /s I get what yer saying, but if their sewers are full, flushing may not be possible. Still, I’m sure there are many that don’t know how the magic toilet thingie works.
