..............Incredible as it may seem to most outside observers, Mitt Romney is actually what currently passes for a moderate in todays Republican Party.....
Romney was sold in the teeth of opposition from a significant section of the Republican grass roots as the pragmatic choice, the compromise they had to make with ideology to secure victory. And when he loses, those activists are going to go as vengefully crazy as Cains Rhode Island Reds.
Anyone who doubts the reaction of the GOP stalwarts to Romneys impending defeat should bear in mind this single, if chilling, fact. Most of them still think hes going to win. They genuinely believe the polls are fixed. They seriously think the surge in support for Obama is nothing more than an "MSM" conspiracy. Some of them clearly even believe the good Lord himself will appear in the spin room at the University of Denver next Wednesday.
And when non of these things turn out to be true, the reaction will be truly terrible to behold. It will be like what happens inside one of those doomsday cults the morning after they all wake up and realise the world hasnt ended after all. First the shock, then the denial, then finally the anger and retribution.
The pinko, Marxist, Obama-loving side of me cant wait for the fireworks to begin. But theres another part of me thats quite disheartened at the thought of the last few moderate elements of a once great political party vanishing beneath a tidal wave of post-election Tea Party hysteria. The majesty of Lincoln, boundless optimism of Reagan, dignity of McCain swept from the pages of history by a bunch of moon-colonising, carnivorous chicken-touting, hurricane-summoning fruit loops....

Yes, this crap started undr McCain and I just can’t understand it.
People here are agreeing with this writer for all of the WRONG reasons.
They see it as yes, the Republicans are not conservative enough so after Romney, if he loses, we need a REAL conservative or the Republicans are through.
Yet this writer is telling us that Romney *WTF?!* is too conservative and after he loses, the Republican conservatives will go nuts and lose it.
Well which is it?
Back in 2000 when McCain ran against Dubya we were told that McCain was the moderate, the better choice than Dubya, who was a a Bible-thumper and CONservative. McCain was the Maverick, able to reach across the ailse and get things done. After the election, McCain was still THE moderate in the Republican party and became famous for anti-Bush sound bites and freindships with John Kerry and Joe Lieberman.
So when he ran in 2008, SUDDENLY McCain became an arch-conservative, a bitter pill, an old man too right wing for modern America! Even Colin Powell said McCain was too extreme for him and was voting Obama (hint, it was his color, General, we know what you did...).
So here we are. Seems to me that in the course of 10-15 years, the media and the elites of this country steered hard Left. McCain and Romney are not arch-conservatives!
Yet someone, or everyone in the media want to paint them so.
I think too many of our citizens have gone from accepting that the term conservative is on itself a good thing or at least not bad, to think of it as some kind of dark stigma they better disavow.
“If Romney loses we are Argentina.”
Or worse.
Unfortunately, if Romney wins, we may still be Greece, or France.
Which will accomplish nothing because everything that new part cares about will all ready be legislated against them and the Judiciary so packed with Obama clones that anything they might manage to legislate will simply be undone by Judicial Fiat.
That pic has my Gaydar pegged. I think it is something else he has in his mouth other than a lemon.
I agree, but if Romney just folds like a cheap suit or doesn’t try to help this nation...he’s toast along with the gop that pushed for his election.
Romney is the gop’s last gasp for survival. Conservatives don’t like him and are not about to help again.
That would be great news for the Tea Party—as in we’ll have another.
There. Fixed it.
Romney isn’t going to lose.

The Republican Party has no need of its Democrat-lite side. It is past time for a true Conservative Party to rise from the ashes. For if Obama is re-elected, there is nothing left to lose.
Did we already colonize the moon?
How did I miss that?
Funny we never see articles about how the Rat party is
going to melt down after Obama loses.
Typical Fairygraph cross-eyed Blairite Fabian Dan Hodges is so full of Gordo-Brown BS he doesn’t know his azz from a gopher hole.
This election is over. All that remains is watching the many leftists who will be on suicide watch when the polls close. I could list the many reasons, but why waste the time. Deep down inside your heart you know it is over.
We may not like Romney, but at least we can hang our hat on the fact that a true businessman will be in charge at a time when we really do not need a politician. He will screw us on social issues, but not nearly as bad a Obama has. At least it will be set up for Ryan to follow with some good social conservatism.
That being said, I have a running bet with any liberal who will take me up on it (so far none have). That bet is for $1000.00 with any liberal who thinks Obama will win. I am betting Romney wins big.
I really do not want to be so greedy with my fellow conservatives, so I will instead only take $500.00 away from any fellow FReeper one who still thinks Obama will win.
Any takers?
I feel like a good pay day awaits me. That is if someone would just take me up on the bet.
AMEN!! America will be finished as we know it.
If Obama is reelected there will be nothing left to win.
Any third party that rises out of the GOP ashes will accomplish nothing because everything that new party cares about will all ready be legislated against them and the Judiciary so packed with Obama clones that anything they might manage to legislate will simply be undone by Judicial Fiat.
After an Obama re-election the USA will be a European style 1 party state with a state directed media, that will allow just enough political window dressing from a "loyal opposition" to keep their peon classes passive.
I am working very hard for the House and Senate. Fortunately, where I live, Romney will not force me into a spot where the lack of my vote costs him anything. If he needs my vote, he has already lost nationally.
Where it hurt is that I cannot be a leader for those around me who look to me for guidance in their voting. I was able to turn Palin into a bunch of McCain votes in 2008. This year, I change the subject.
While it is wrong for me to vote for the man, he would be a better choice than O’Zero. I’m not sure, but it seems the GOP elites might have backed themselves into a corner in their “cleverness” this time. It may not be the win - win they think it is. If Romney wins, he may choose to live up to his new principles. If Romney loses, they may not be able to blame Conservatives as they wish.
Alas, you may well be correct, but my mind cannot process that at this time.
Agreed 100%, ZULU.
AIN’T NOBODY GOTS NO MONEY. OBAMA GOTS IT ALL IN HIS STASH! DATS HOW HE PAY FO MY OBAMAPHONE.................
