CNN reported on the personal journal of slain American ambassador Christopher Stevens over objections from his family, a State Department spokesman said Saturday.
The news channel, in a story posted online Saturday, said that it found a journal belonging to Stevens four days after he died in a Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya. Three other Americans also were killed.
CNN broke a pledge to the late ambassador's family that it wouldn't report on the diary, said State Department spokesman Philippe Reines, a senior adviser to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
In a blistering statement, Reines called CNN's actions "indefensible."
The channel said in the story online that it took "newsworthy tips" from Stevens' diary and confirmed them with other sources. Citing an unidentified source "familiar with Stevens' thinking," CNN said that the ambassador was concerned about security threats in Benghazi and a "rise in Islamic extremism."
In a statement Saturday, CNN defended its use of the journal's contents and asked "why is the State Department now attacking the messenger."
...."Given the truth of how this was handled, CNN patting themselves on the back is disgusting," Reines said in his statement.

I am curious if it details our Ambassador's work with the GITMO detainees during the overthrow and the supply of heavy weapons to them. This would make them want to discredit CNN prior to the release of that info. ISOLATE THE TARGET THEN RIDICULE?

Glenn Beck was discussing this...believes there is a cover up going on. His theory ... the ambassador helped arm the rebels. Now they are trying to recover weapons before they end up in an incident killing Americans or Israel. Which would be an embarrassment to administration. (Paraphrase), Why was he there on September 11th with basically no security.
“...there is the family who didn’t want it to be made public...” IF I were a part of the family and found a journal/diary existed, I would want to know what was in it before it was publicized. IF I knew there were things about my loved one that he didn’t want to be made public, I would especially want to read that material before it was publicized. To me it is extremely logical that they would not want it in anyone’s hands and control except their own.

The Admin is upset because the contents of the diary — lack of security and potential threats from muzzies — doesn’t fit the narrative Obama and HClinton and Rice have been trying to sell.
Obama/HClinton are still trying to sell ‘the video’ as the culprit and match that has lighted the ME fiasco. O/HC need that because, otherwise, the culprit and match seems to be incompetence and indecisiveness in Obama ME policy.

This theory is plausible. Might not be right but it is plausible.
The security guys were part of the team trying to track down the weapons.
Perhaps there was suppose to be a meeting with rebels or one of their cut outs (to use a spy term)
But wouldn’t a meeting happen somewhere else??????????? Unless he was lured there so they could make a statement against the facility.

Completely disagree with this.
Stevens was still useful. Unless he had contacts he was willing to rat out. I could see them taking him out for fear of what he might do but not because he was just some useless idiot.
In that photo, one is crying she was found out....the other just looks bored with the whole thing and just wants it to go away.
