Mitt Romney officially clinched the GOP presidential nomination on Tuesday to move a step closer in his five-year quest for the White House.

To roaring cheers at the Republican National Convention in the packed Tampa Bay Times Forum, the delegation from New Jersey put Romney above the 1,144-delegate threshold, ensuring he will be the GOP challenger against President Barack Obama in November.

Earlier, the 2,200-plus convention delegates approved a conservative platform that called for less government, opposed same-sex marriage and endorsed a "human life amendment" to ban abortion with no specific exceptions for cases of rape, incest or when the mother's life is threatened.

Romney and his running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, will be formally nominated on Thursday, and Romney's acceptance speech that night will conclude the convention that had its agenda delayed by Hurricane Isaac.

With the storm churning toward landfall in Louisiana, Republican officials appeared determined to stick to a tightened three-day schedule that kicked into full gear on Tuesday with official business and speeches accusing Obama of failed leadership and undermining the American dream...

I wholeheartedly agree — other than quibbling that ours is the *only* Revolution. :’)

I’m happy about Ryan, but not about Romney.

Can the ticket be reversed? Or was that what all the haggling was about?

Oh, don’t worry, I am voting for Romney. Just not happy to. As I said, the nation cannot survive another 4 years of the Soros Administration.

but yeah I think all the libertarian leaning GOP voters will go someplace else, not to Obama that is for sure but probably to some 3rd party.

The paulbots who really understand libertarianism may vote for Gary Johnson, most will sit home smoking weed or vote Obama. Virtually every paulkook I knew in 2008 (youngish college students) ended up voting for Obama. Most of them will do it again. The vast majority of these people were NEVER Republicans. They were NEVER going to vote for the actual GOP nominee. They hate the "country club" wing, but hate the social conservative wing even more. Paulbots DETESTED Santorum. They can not stand evangelicals and social conservatives. Read Ron Paul forums and websites. These people have very little in common with conservatism and we will all be better off when they go try to take over the Democrat party instead of the GOP.

But I will give you this, yall got a lock on the country club votes. Good luck winning with that.

/yawn. The GOP platform is actually quite good this time around. It is a very socially and economically conservative policy blueprint. 90%+ of conservatives will be voting for Romney/Ryan. The Paulbots can just shut up and go away - they aren't part of the party and weren't going to vote for the eventual GOP nominee anyway.

If the election this year were between Hubert Humphrey and Adolf Hitler, which way would you vote?

As it turns out, the election this year is between Nelson Rockefeller and a Sorosian robot puppet. And I know how I'm going to vote.

Its an annoying choice but an easy one.

Ryan didn’t run in the primaries, or if he did, not for long. So, no.

I doubt Romney will get very many conservatives votes, yeah he is better then the Marxist Obama, but he is a same sex marriage, pro abortion, big government, NWO socialist. So I can not see many conservatives voting for him. I will be checking out 3rd parties soon. Sarah seems kinda pissed at the GOPe today maybe she’ll run!

Their conduct has crushed any chance they had. They are now without 8 million votes because they are stupid! If they had embarrassed the grass roots and allowed them to speak they would have won the election. Now they lose . Just barely. but they needed the 8 million. Too bad.

I’m hoping that Mitt Romney gets struck down by God after he wins the election

Oh, for Heaven's sake, give it a rest! OK, so Romney is not your favorite choice, but he's what we have to work with and he is objectively different and better than Obama measured against the yardstick of conservative principles. The level of ad hominem hatred against Romney displayed by some on this website is unseemly.

I haven’t yet voted for Romney. In November I will, and will be happy to do it. Zero has to go, because it’s quite literally him or us.

Right on.

My viewpoint isn’t unusual at all. Almost everyone in my community endorses a Ryan presidency. They see a Romney victory as merely a precursor to the ideal, rather than the ideal.

YES it is unusual, very few, even on this site, wish Romney to be struck down by God.

Let me know when the republican elite live up to that platform. They do not have a reputation for following words with actual actions. When they do something that actually benefits the rest of us I will be able to judge them by those actions. Only an idiot will believe empty words without corresponding actions and follow through.

What makes you think I consider Romney is on my side. All I’ve heard are words. His past actions do not lead me to believe that he is working in my benefit. I truly hope he proves me wrong but I do not believe he will.
