First, I'm a woman. (Seems to be an important qualification if one is to be allowed to have an opinion on "womens' bodies.")
I'm used to being attacked by the harridans of the Left, who claim that if you're a pro-life, then you're NOT A WOMAN.
But I'm not used to hearing conservatives knee-jerk to the idea that something is "idiotic" just because it's politically incorrect ... according to those same rabid harridans of the Left.
I think, like Akin did, that a woman's endocrine system CAN sometimes "shut down" the process of conception, or implantation, as a result of traumatic stress suffered by the woman.
It so happens there are respected physicians who believe this is possible too: Dr. John C. WIlkie, MD, OB/GYN. And there is some research that tends to back this up (see references at bottom of this page.
We may never have a 100% dispositive study that proves that pregnancy as a result of rape is rare. Real numbers are hard to come by. And sadly, any researcher who attempts an objective study is going to be excoriated like Mark Regnerus (who studied homosexual parenting) or Jay Belsky (who studied the effects of putting children in day care).
But many women know, intuitively, that what Akin said is not "imbecilic." Many women have experience with their endocrine systems going awry, due to stress. I myself have carried four pregnancies to term, but lost one, probably due to stress that caused an endocrine malfunction.
** "Ain't I a woman" is a quote from Sojourner Truth, a strong Christian black woman. She wasn't going to stand for her opinion being shut down because she was (a) a woman and (b) voicing ideas that weren't popular in some circles. And neither am I.
So did I hear Akin but I didnt think it was earth shattering and I was not offended......
If it had been treated as it was Willard would not be in such a sweat right now...
and Onyx heres something to consider about Willards stupid reaction where he just thought of himself and not about any women...
Willard and his RomneyBot seem to like to channel Reagan...
Its strange that Willard would just toss Akin under the bus so fast forgetting to channel Reagan’s 11th Commandment
“Thou shalt speak no ill of a fellow Republican”
would that be like the 3rd Tuesday of the 4th month or the first Saturaday of the 5th month? When exactly is it time for us to say life is worth living or too bad, so sad, time for you to die?
Maybe it's not what he meant, but it's exactly how it came out, ...
So, which is it? Did he mean his words the way people took them, at face value, or didn't he mean it that way? You're pretty good at this method of covering your bets by making two contradictory arguments then issuing a challenge for a simple 'yes' or 'no' reply.
I'm not doing that. All I was saying was to be consistent with science, you can't claim that Willke is wrong just because he hasn't proven his theory. Science demands you have an open mind about all theories unless they've been proved or disproved.
What you've stated now is that it's been proven in your estimation that a lasting pregnancy is less likely to occur from forcible rape than from a consensual encounter. I find that interesting and to me it goes a long way to acquitting Akin. At least with respect to people who claim he is insane, ignorant, crazy, etc. It's not crazy to think rape affects whether a viable pregnancy will result, it does in fact have a basis in fact according to you. So that's helpful. Thanks.
Why do you vote Republican if you think their official party platform is "radical?"
How about if the baby is the product of rape, it’s out of the womb, but the umbilical cord is still attached? Is it okay to slice up the baby’s brains or not?
Thank you.
I agree with you 100 percent.
That is a straw man. One the pro-aborts routinely trot out.
Abortion was legal in all 50 states prior to Roe v. Wade in cases of danger to the life of the woman. Medically speaking it is not even considered an abortion because the purpose is not to abort the child but rather to save the mother's life. Any possibility of saving the baby would also be employed.
By legitimate he meant a non-statutory rape and one that wasn't just a false accusation. Everyone agrees he used the wrong word there. But it's much like Whoopi Goldberg's "rape rape" or someone else who might have misspoke and said a "real" rape. It's natural for the English language to sound like that when trying to refer to the most severe form of something, but it can come out as ambiguous as it did here.
And as far as that crap about him calling women "whores" or liars, you sound indistinguishable from an absolutely radical, MSNBC, Code Pink, lying leftist. You're making offensive garbage up out of nowhere and putting words in conservatives' mouths. It's disgusting. How in the world does him saying an event is rare mean that whenever it happens to someone, they must be lying? And the part about whores, you have me at a loss. I can't even imagine how you could get from his words, as misspoken as they were, that he was calling women whores. You are either a clueless moron, or you have some truly far-left views and hatred for Christians or conservatives.
God bless you dear Onyx
I love you and appreciate you...
Our country is caught in a terrible dilemma with this slaughter of the innocents...
The process of conception is extremely complex. Here are some facts to consider:
Chemical mediators are associated with both sperm and egg. The egg has chemical as well as structural factors which can serve either to promote entry of the sperm or to inhibit it.
Now we know you're an idiot who couldn't pass a high school biology class.
Exactly. That was the same rationale they offered us for voting for Romney in the primary. He's "inevitable" because everyone's just going to vote for him anyway, so jump on board.
Yes, most here, including Jim I dare say, believe that the baby should NOT pay the price of the father. A life is a life is a life.
I am with you dear
Again, it’s not about who is right or wrong. It’s about which principles are right and which are wrong.
Premenopause
Stress
Low body weight
Disease
Breastfeeding can extend the absence of it
Quite a few women are irregular
Not Wifey though

Thanks for the response. I concur with you. The pro-abortion RINOs sure are coming out of the woodwork today, aren't they?
Thank God you’re rebutting some of the ridiculous crap this guy spews...I don’t even read his posts. He’s a self appointed expert in all things reproductive and makes a fool of himself with his stance.
We seem to be seeing the true colors of many on FR since this issue came out. Many are using a misstatement by a true conservative as their own platform to push abortion and invoke Reagan’s erroneous positions on picking and choosing who gets to survive their birth.
Pretty discouraging if you ask me.
