Imagine Tea Party extremists seizing control of a South Carolina town and the Army being sent in to crush the rebellion. This farcical vision is now part of the discussion in professional military circles.
At issue is an article in the respected Small Wars Journal titled “Full Spectrum Operations in the Homeland: A ‘Vision’ of the Future.”

There ain’t enough military to find 5,000 Taliban in a desert and mountain country as big as Texas, so there sure ain’t enough drones for the USA by many orders of magnitude.
How does a drone distinguish a hunter with a scoped rifle from a “rebel sniper?” Or does Drone Command order the end of outdoor firearms carry? Really?
How will that work, when 19 million Americans purchase deer hunting stamps each Fall, and sally forth with scoped rifles to slay wily 200-pound mammals? Ban hunting, ban the 2nd Amendment. I’m sure Obama can just issue an Emergency Edict, and we’ll all obey it.

As a Texan, let me agree with you that whites are not predominant, but if you dont count illegals, that changes the situation. And even Gov Perry was threatening secession a couple of years ago. Texas very well could secede.

If you read the supporting discussions in the Federalist Papers, controlling a standing army was discussed at length while discussing whether there should even be a Federal standing Army.
The conclusion was that a small standing army would be overwhelmed by the sheer force of armed citizens with or without martial training, and thus kept in line.
The term "Militia" is defined in the same dictionary as: "the Army, in its entirety."
When the substitutions are made, (remembering the objective is the "security of a free State"), keeping the army controlled by guaranteeing the Right of the People to Keep and Bear Arms, and thus keeping the Federal Government in check was indeed the objective of the Second Amendment, to ensure liberty.
The Third Amendment dealt with another related concern: that of quartering troops within one's home.
Recall, too, that the colonies had been subjected to what amounted to military rule prior to the fight for independence, and the pieces all fall into place.
Not just numbers but I hardly think we the people that build those drones and other systems would stand by and allow them to be used against us. When we say that we have had enough I can’t imagine an army that could defeat us.

Since the artificial push to get everyone into the cities, that’s an interesting thought that hasn’t come up in a while. Taxation and voting manipulations have pushed people to get into cities while the rural areas have seen population decreases, not to mention technology means less people needed for farming and ranching while more people were needed in offices and factories.

You're right if elites wanted our country to function at the level it's functioning at now. That might not be the case. Elites throughout history want things to work for them, but show little concern for the general population.
Check out Africa - or banana republics - thugs neutralize opposition and plundered what's left. Thugs running countries do well for themselves. They would live well here too - as long as they have theirs - and their power's not threatened. Which is where to repressive force always comes into play...
Think of the poorest countries in the world - their corrupt leaders live like kings...
Our country's broke - but there's much that could be sold off - or lived off of for a long time. Yes, it could happen here. The history of the world tells us democracies like ours are the exception...

Most of us dont live like 5000 Taliban in the desert. We live in houses with addresses ususally readily available on Google. We live quiet lives.
And it might so totally cripple the economy and delivery systems, that all urban zones explode in uncontainable food riots.

And Finland. In 4 months in 1918, Finland managed to kill off about 1% of its male population. During the US Civil War of 1861-1865 we managed to knock off around 2% of our own over that 4-year period. The difference was that in Finland, only about 25% were combat deaths. The rest were summary executions, or prisoners dying in the horrid conditions in the PW camps.
If they ave no respect whatsoever for my constitutional rights or the Law of Land Warfare, why should I extend such niceties to those other people.
