The nationwide day of appreciation for Chick-fil-A and its ownerships outspoken defense of a traditional view of marriage was in full force at the chains stand-alone restaurant outside Valley View Mall in Roanoke at lunchtime today.
The restaurant was packed, with a line of people extending from the front counter, outside the doors and into the parking lot. The drive-through line, meanwhile, wrapped around the building and at one point extended back into Valley View Boulevard, with more than 30 carloads of people waiting to order. One city police officer was on hand to monitor the traffic situation.
In a July interview, Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy said he supported a traditional view of marriage, the biblical definition of the family unit. The Cathy family has never hid from its Southern Baptist views, closing its restaurants on Sundays.
But Cathy's statement has fired up gay rights groups, who are calling for a nationwide kiss-in campaign to take place Friday.
Meanwhile, Chick-fil-A supporters have answered emphatically. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee has declared today Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, a day to have a meal at Chick-fil-A and stand behind the restaurant.
Former Roanoke mayor and current state Sen. Ralph Smith was on hand at the Valley View Chick-fil-A today, handing out small U.S. flags to patrons.

Even folks who support civil unions have had enough.
There there's the former Mayor and State Senator, who is handing out flags to patrons.
I bet we see a lot of that on Friday. /s
The radicals are really hitting the internet news polls. Won’t help ‘em. Their “settled science” on gay married is like Algore’s settled science on man made globalist warming.
I’s gladly go to a Chik-Fil-A today or any day if there was one here. Went all the time when we lived in Virginia.
The gay activists don’t want civil unions, and they really don’t want “marriage”.
They’re not PO’d over Cathy’s opposition to gay “marriage”, because he didn’t express any opposition, just support of biblical marriage, and that’s what set them off.
They are mad about support for biblical marriage.
Cmon freepers! This poll needs serious freeping.
Just took the poll.
Out of 6486 replies 37.2% are now more likely to eat at CFA
and 47.6% less likely. Yeah, FReep it up.
"Appreciation Day" is good, Appreciation YEAR is better.
.
The only thing that poll is showing is that a few gay activists with plenty of time on their hands can skew the results. The real world response is being shown in packed Chick-fil-A restaurants around the country.
I don’t think your off base there. My emphasis has been different.
It’s my take that there is a movement within, that really wants to get enough power to undo the taboo against adult child sex.
That’s why you see this rabid mad-dog vicious attack against anyone who says anything remotely suggesting that homosexuality might not be proper. In this instance, it involved homosexual’s desires for equal footing on marriage.
They intend to make it so difficult for anyone to speak truth, that they can do whatever they want.
That said, I honestly do agree with you that the CEO DID NOT trash homosexual marriage. None the less, it’s very important to this group to make it completely impossible to voice objection to their goals, and I would submit, no matter what those goals are.
Take a look at the movement to teach very young children that that there is nothing wrong with homosexuality, even going so far as to try to break the parent/child bond of trust to achieve it, if it’s deemed necessary. And they have deemed it so.
It took this community a very long time to get up the courage to break support for NAMBLA. Publicly they have, but I remain unconvinced that the group as a hole sees much wrong with NAMBLA. That’s a personal opinion, I’ll grant you, but with the push into our very young children’s schools and pre-schools, it rather evident that children are not out of bounds for them.
They are very definitely in-bounds, and you don’t hear a single homosexual taking objection. Speaks volumes for me.
... for your consideration. Hugs, Mom
Same thing in Wilmington, NC. Went there for lunch and the place was packed. The parking lot next door at another restaurant that was closed was filled to capacity. I never did get my lunch.

I support private property rights but you don't check First Amendment at their door.

Pretty repressive, if you ask me.
Ever since Obamanomics rolled around, the wife and I have had one “fast food night” a week (replacing our former “night out” with dinner at a nice place and a movie or a trip to the mall :’( ). We formerly went to McDonalds, but we’ve decided to spend it at Chick-Fil-A for the foreseeable future. It seems like money well spent.
Pretty common for leftists, on any issue, instead of arguing the issue based on its merits to intimidate and silence their opponents.
That is because the truth isn’t on their side.
They still have a store in the West Manchester Mall? Last tme I was there it was like some kind of post-apocalyptic video game level, nothing but locked, dark storefronts and staring mutants.
Hope you found the plasma rifle...
Hasn’t been the same since WalMart opened at one end of mall but isolated—no mall entrance from WM.
BonTon anchor store closed in January.
