WePay Helps Group Go Against Chick-Fil-A
NBC Bay Area ^ | Friday, Jul 20, 2012 | Scott Budman |

Posted on 07/22/2012 9:47:45 PM PDT by nickcarraway

It's a case of social networking, same-sex marriage, and chicken.

As Chick-Fil-A makes its move into the Bay Area, some local residents unhappy with the company's stance on gay marriage are raising money to fight back. And they're using a Silicon Valley startup's technology to help.

A group of Mountain View residents and employees led by Robert Neivert went online to raise a quick $1,000. That's how much they need to file paperwork opposing the city's plan to let a Chick-Fil-A in. To do it quickly, they went on WePay, which lets you raise money, with a little social networking on the side.

And it worked: The money was raised in a matter of hours. The paperwork will be filed, and technology gets the assist. As Neivert says, "in the old says, you'd have to go to meetings and call friends." Says WePay co-founder Rich Aberman, "It's always nice to see campaigns resonate. People here, including me, sympathize with that campaign."

WePay positions itself as a faster, more convenient choice to Paypal. Now, its technology is giving a boost to the fight for same-sex marriage.

Why is any liberal surprised that an unapologetically Christian private company, CLOSED ON SUNDAYS, would support Christian ideals of a marriage between a man and a woman?

Remember “free speech zones” and all that? Where is Dan Cathy’s “free speech zone?”

Yikes! You don’t have good options there. Maybe an email of support would work in your case.

I’ve never eaten breakfast at the Christian Chicken. Think I’ll take the time for that tomorrow.

He stands in opposition to the PC Zampolit of the Lavender Mafia; therefore, his rights are nullified, comrade.

Don’t know about your CFA but here in Houston burbs if you buy a Peach Shake, you get a plastic card like a credit/debit card good for another one free as long as their special lasts. My grandson who loves Peach Shakes and chicken fingers from CFA wanted to order 5 when we were there yesterday so he could have one every night next week. His reasoning: Would make his mom happy to be able to give him something special on the way home from school and it wouldn’t cost her a thing!

With customers like my grandson, CFA will do fine.

The powers that be will run them into the ground. At the very least, they will be buried under waves of lawsuits and vandalism.

It sounds like such an easy medium for a scam. Maybe it worked as intended here but that’s not going to continue to be the case. Someone could have as easily said they wanted to fund a petition of some sort and then run away with the funds.

As for Chick-Fil-A, if San Fran doesn’t want them then they don’t deserve Chick-Fil-A.

My wife and I will now try to get to a Chick-Fil-A much more often now. The only one within an hour’s drive is at a college campus.

It’s never enough to just not go to the place.

Precisely. And it's not even that Chik Fil A is supposed to be discriminating against homosexuals, even though that's the lie being peddled. The business doesn't care who anyone has sex with; how would they know? They'll sell their products to whoever walks in the door with the money to buy them.

The company is being punished because the owner of the company happens to support groups that oppose homosexual marriage. So the homosexual activists have to make an example of Chik Fil A in order to intimidate other businesses. They can't go after the stockholders, because the company isn't publicly traded, so they'll try to hit the company by keeping them from expanding into certain markets.

It all traces back to what they did to Anita Bryant in the 70s, it was meant as a warning message to all celebrities, that if they didn’t toe the line, the gays would destroy your career. And now, there are few celebrities who dare speak out.

It would be great if they opened one in Mt. View. Fairfield is too far away...
I'll send an email to the Chick Fill A folks to see how they'd recommend support for their opening of a franchise in Mt. View.

Maybe next door to In & Out Burger on ECR would be appropriate. Two All-American eating establishments in the same block - wonderful.

I wonder if this company will be around in a year.

I sure hope so. They are outstanding and just about the best fast food place out there.

Their food is delicious, their service is incredible and every aspect of the experience is fantastic.

We've gone to several and their workers will help us find a table, stop by to pick up trash, ask how we are enjoying the meal and experience and bring us refills. This is for a McDonald's fast food type of restaurant!

Honestly, they blow away other FF restaurants. If the market works, and that's at risk these past 3/4 years, CFA will be there longer than the jerks complaining about them.

Medically speaking, given the high risk of their mental illness being marketed as a "lifestyle", it's likely a guarantee.

I get a chicken sandwich or chicken salad, and a milkshake at CFA at least once week.
I am a very lucky person.

Yes you are a very lucky person.

Mrs. Peet and I made a point to stop at a CFA while we were visiting S.C. last spring. YUM-YUM...

I got a notice from a friend on my Facebook page that Mike Huckabee is suggesting August 1 as Chick Fil A 'Appreciation Day'. He's encouraging as many as possible to go to the restaurant on that day to show support.

Turns out, our daughter and I are going to a concert in Somerville MA that night, and one of the only two CFAs in MA happens to be in Burlington, MA. It's slightly out of our direct route, but still 'on our way' to the concert location.

I know where WE'LL be having supper that night! ;o)

I have never been real fond of the menu at Chick-Fil-A. But I have just instructed my family that we are going to be eating there quite regularly from now on, when their stores are nearby in our travels or our errand running.
