Hours after saying the private sector is "doing fine," President Obama on Friday walked back those remarks, saying it's "absolutely clear" the economy is not fine.
"That's precisely why I asked Congress to start taking some steps to make a difference," Obama said.
Obama corrected himself at a press availability in the Oval Office just hours after after he made the original remark to reporters in the White House briefing room.
Republicans, recognizing a political gift, had pounced on Obama's initial remarks, which came a week after a dismal jobs report found the economy added only 69,000 jobs in May.
They compared Obama's comment to Sen. John McCain's (R-Ariz.) election-changing comments when he said, "the fundamentals of our economy are strong."
Obama's opponent, Mitt Romney, immediately slammed Obama, accusing him of being "out of touch."
"I think he's really defining what it means to be out of touch with reality," Romney said. Speaker John Boehner echoed that sentiment on Capitol Hill, saying, "Take it from me, the private sector is not doing well."
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
I’ll BET he’s walking it back. He’s getting HAMMERED!!!!
It’s video history now. Should be part of every campaign commercial.
His walk-back is so snotty and condescending, as if to say, of course I did not mean what I said. Are YOU stupid or what? No one could be THAT stupid to have said what I did or believe that I said it. You swine just have lying ears!
“Obama had to walk it back, his media didn’t back him up this time.”
I disagree. It’s impossible to tell what Hussein actually said to “walk it back,” due to the media’s creative placement of quotes:
Hours after saying the private sector is “doing fine,” President Obama on Friday walked back those remarks, saying it’s “absolutely clear” the economy is not fine.
“That’s precisely why I asked Congress to start taking some steps to make a difference,” Obama said.
Give Bam a break!
He’s “evolving” again.
What a moron.
I believe he can plainly see November and doesn't like what he sees.
“Nuanced” as the Hussein Heads like to call him.
Whoops...Obama realized he provided a big, fat gold nugget to the enemy and is desperately trying to staunch the dozens of ads which are already in production as we speak.
I’m sure he just found out that everybody is not “fine” and is sick of him. Those doing “fine” will overwhelmingly kick his ass out of office.
Hollyweird is next.
0bungles does more backwards moonwalking than Michael Jackson ever did.
If that clip doesn’t show up in commercial after commercial until November the GOP really is the the stupid party. That was a gift from heaven...
As many books have come out to praise the all-powerful Hussein, many, MANY more are going to have to come out to absolve him from blame after he’s fired.
FUBO and the Hussein Head media you rode in on!
Despite trying to walk it back, Romney needs to make national ads with the original “doing fine” comments. It is what the dems would do.
I heard his walk-back on radio - an extended quote w/o interruptions. He was totally condescending and snotty, with the petulant attitude of how could anyone be so stupid to think I made a mistake. BUT he did not explain what he meant not why he said it. Like his freguent referrals to his “2 sons”? Maybe he had them transgenderized? Maybe he is losing it? or maybe he IS a moron.
He's an idiot.
They're crediting Romney's team with quicker responses and better messaging... they thought Obama's press conference was lackluster, some suggested he's already given up. It's been fun lurkin’ there since Walker bitch-slapped their very foundation.
Enjoying a refreshing, Dem-tear-sweetened iced tea.
