If it was a Republican, it would have been a “gaffe” or a “flip-flop” that created a “firestorm” or showed they were “out of touch”. But since it is Obama, he gets a chance to “walk it back” and the Republicans are portrayed in the story as being mean for “pouncing” on his remarks.
