A man from Maple Shade has confessed to killing 6 year old Etan Patz in New York in 1979.
New York City police commissioner Raymond Kelly said Thursday a person who’s in custody has implicated himself in the death of Patz, the 6-year-old boy whose disappearance 33 years ago on his way to school helped launch a missing children’s movement that put kids’ faces on milk cartons.
The Star Ledger identifies the man as Pedro Hernandez of Maple Shade who reportedly confessed to kidnapping and strangling Patz during an interview yesterday with NYPD. Hernandez lured the boy to a nearby store according t0 WNBC TV.
At the time of the boy’s disappearance, the man in custody lived in the same Manhattan neighborhood as Patz. He had been known to detectives for years, but it was unclear what brought them back to him this week.

This poor boy disappeared 33 years ago. In some ways, I am glad they found out who did it and maybe the parents can finally bury their child. However, I still have to wonder how many other little boys have disappeared from then till now?
So it wasn’t the guy who’s basement they dug all up?
I was working all over the SoHo area when Etan went missing. Glad they finally got the SOB.
God bless the police who work on cold cases! You are right, though, what’s the likelihood this was the only child he killed?
How these people who commit such horrific crimes can live with themselves is beyond me.

I searched online and found that the basement belonged to Ramos at the time of the disappearance. It doesn’t sound like they found anything useful.
I’m sorry... Ramos is a man who was the boyfriend of this child’s babysitter. He is in a Pennsylvania prison today. The police felt he was a good suspect and dug up what was then his basement.. finding nothing. Sorry that was all confusing.

They start out the same as others - it’s the whole free-will thing that comes into play, combined with the environment people like this usually grow up in, and then seek out as an adult.
I’m by no means excusing this man’s behavior, but God did not make him that way... We could speculate about the Devil and demons, but that would be giving the man an excuse and to blame everything on Satan isn’t *fair* either, in my view (although that would be easiest in cases like this).

Satan doesn’t force his will on Man.
Satan tempts... Man *chooses* the path Satan suggests.

Actually, the basement didn’t belong to Ramos, but to somebody (a black man) who was a handyman for a local gay sex club and had some sort of child molesting charges against him. The police didn’t find anything in the basement.
The investigation obviously sparked this admission, though. It’s very possible that all of these guys knew each other, because child molesters seem to hang out together, either because they’ve met in prison or, nowadays, they’ve met online.
I really hope this is the guy (I think someone else confessed to it a few years ago, btw) and that the parents can finally get closure on this.

God makes all people. That doesn’t mean he is responsible for the evil that they do.
Scripture is clear on both points.
Satan doesn’t create.
And God doesn’t sin.
God did create mankind. Mankind fell into sin; and we are responsible for our sinfulness.
I live in NYC and lived here back then as well. I have read many of the stories about the recent search for remains. Nowhere did i read that the handyman worked for a local gay sex club. Can you provide a link as to where that information came from?
