Americans are fatter than ever, but its not their fault. Thats according to the latest effort to solve an obesity crisis in the only way liberals know how - with more government.
A study released this week from researchers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Duke University and RTI International found obesity rates to be on course to rise from 34 to 42 percent of the U.S. population by 2030. The number of severely obese - defined as about 100 pounds overweight - will double to 11 percent.
Today, 68 percent of Americans are overweight and half of those are obese. According to the CDC, the average man is 59 tall and weighs 195 pounds. Thats an inch taller but 30 pounds heavier than the average in 1960. The average woman has also grown an inch in 50 years to 54, but she spins the scales 25 pounds heavier at 165 pounds.
A new report from the highly influential Institute of Medicine this week blames society and business for this obesity epidemic. The organization, which was created by the National Academy of Sciences, wants the federal government to insert itself in the private market to force food and beverage companies to provide healthy options at competitive prices everywhere that food is offered. Fast-food and chain restaurants would have to change the childrens menu to comply with federal dietary guidelines without charging more for these options. Sugary sodas would be taxed.
The basic idea is that people cant stop themselves from eating hot dogs at a baseball game or ordering a double-cheese pizza from the couch. Government-centric busybodies want to turn fat people into a class of victims so that Big Brother can come and take control of not just their lives, but everyones food choices.

So that’s all you had was the juice, all day long? I drink my vegetable juice every day, but I haven’t lost any weight, I suppose because I still have been eating dinner. I’m starting to realize, though, that my addiction to carbos is just that - an addiction. Every night I have such brave hopes not to carbo load, and then I lay down for 45 minutes and pop up out of bed and head for the fridge, all my plans out the window in the early sleep state.

Watch the movie, “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead.” It’s all about juicing. I just had vegetable and fruit juices for 60 days. All day, every day. Not smoothies, but juice. It gives you all of the nutrition that you need while expending all of your digestive energy on burning fat. I am not a nutritionist or doctor, but just an average fat Joe that needed to turn my life around.
I AM someone who has tried nearly every diet I could think of. This is the only diet that has actually worked while encouraging not just myself, but my whole family to eat more fruits and vegetables and to “think health.” I haven’t had junk food or fast food in almost 3 full months. I walk 3.6 miles at least 4-5 days a week. Staying healthy and active is now a lifestyle for me and my family.
As far as meals go, I cook with mostly vegetables and poultry. I’m not going extreme vegan, but have just learned to limit my excessive meat intake. I have cut out most white carbs, like bread, rice and potatoes. If I do have a bread or grain, it’s brown rice, couscous or whole grain pita/flat bread, and then only in limited amounts.
If I am going out and likely to get MSG in my food I take several L taurine capsules. It seems that the body puts out the opposite of an amino acid, which counters it, if it detects it is getting too much of it. The opposite of glutamine for the body seems to be L taurine. I can get so sick that I feel like I could be dying for days if I get too much MSG. Taking L taurine can go pretty far neutralizing the effects of it, as long as I am not getting loads and loads of MSG, and then I will get sick, but not as sick as if I didn't take the L taurine at all. I try to always have some L taurine along with me in my purse. A fellow might want to keep a few in a plastic bag in his pocket. It is pretty inexpensive, but it must be L taurine and not just taurine. For those of us who are aware of how bad MSG is for us, and/or suffer when consuming it, L taurine can be tremendous blessing. Hope it helps you, too.
Also, a friendly reminder. Be careful little hand what you write. It is so popular to use "God" as an expression these days, that we can easily forget the commandment to not take the LORD's name in vain and use the name we recognize as His, God, without giving it the respect and reverence it deserves.
>Then why have I lost 18 pounds since I cut wheat and some other carbs out of my diet?<
Is it because you no longer have spikes in blood sugar since you’ve eliminated a huge source of carbohydrate, not to mention you’ve cut your cravings for starchy stuff way down? Oh, and you’ve significantly reduced your risk of celiac disease because the gliadin in wheat has been eliminated from your diet?
Sounds like you know the drill. Oh, and now it’s 22.5 pounds.
>Sounds like you know the drill. Oh, and now its 22.5 pounds.<
I’ve lost a bunch of weight since I cut out bread and starchy junk. But most of all, my blood pressure is normal and I no longer have to take medication for it.

I wanted to add protein powder, but they’re all flavored, and I don’t think vanilla or chocolate would go with my vegetable juice very well. So I’m having the protein with milk later in the day.
But that’ll just make things worse - the fracking communists will call everybody over x pounds a bourgeois pig, stealing food out of the mouths of the noble proletariat to stuff down their insatiable maw. In fact, I wonder if it wasn’t just this sentiment, back in the bad old days of the 30s, that got everybody concerned about weight in the first place.
Thanks, I’ve been juicing for almost a year now, and love it, never want to stop, but haven’t gotten the weightloss results because I didn’t go through the fast. Which I guess I need to do, eh.
p.s. that movie changed my life.
Thank you, I will try that. I think I have a bad problem with it, and it only started about 20 years ago - suddenly I realized that my lethargy after the chinese buffet at noontime was far more than just being overly full.
I can’t do the juice fast for more than about 1 meal, but I am thinking long-term. I once made almost 20 hrs, but I’d need more time for a longer duration. I do skip meals, like lunch or super and just juice, down 6 lbs and that’s great for during a school year. I started out with carrots, celery, ginger root and apple, but budget(time and money) now I cut down to celery, cucumber, jalapeno; except on week-ends I try different things.
See, that’s me too. I have a couple of mugs a day - 32 oz mugs but they have ice in them - and that’s about all I want to contemplate of the mean green for the day. Actually mine is mean pus-colored, because I put beets off in there and that’s what it comes out looking like. Tastes great though! Tastes Great Less Filling Tastes Great.
Oh, one other point on that weight loss from the juice lady;
http://www.juiceladyinfo.com/weightLoss.php
“Just as acids are stored in fat cells, so are toxins, which are acidic. Vegetable juices are very alkaline, so they help your body balance pH. That helps you lose weight. As you detoxify your body with colon, liver and gallbladder cleansing, along with lots of fresh vegetable juices, youll notice the weight melting away. Get into a sauna or do aerobic exercises that make you sweat. Sweating is about the only way to get rid of plastic toxins.”
I wanted to search back to this thread so that I could say that I stopped consuming starches and grains a week ago and I’ve lost over 13 pounds. Some may say, that’s mostly water weight, but I say the water weight was necessary for the extra metabolic processing required by the massive loads of carbo. And I’m not going back.
Yes, I would agree. 13 pounds is amazing! I struggle to get 1 lb off in a week of skipping suppers, but I am having carbs too. I think at a certain point the body realizes it has some fat cells and no longer needs the same water balance.
And bravo to the ‘not going back’, same here. I am running(actually doing wind sprints) at least once a week, and I go through a light-weight high rep major muscle group work out, it takes about 35 minutes, and I don’t worry so much about the smaller muscles because they will be used some and won’t fall far behind. It also will maximize the circulation, thus discarding more waste.

Ugh... feeling a little weak and woozy now... it comes and goes.
Yeah, forgot to mention the appetite goes up when you start working out too, so do be careful.
Oh what a weekend. It was weak and woozy for a while, then major cramps in arms, legs, ribs, etc. Then explosive elimination. Then a major MSG poisoning. Today and yesterday, I’m feeling pretty good.
I got the L Taurine - it seems to be having a dramatic, beneficial effect.
