What does FR think about CIA Director David Petraeus as the GOP VP candidate?
Good idea! VP has no control over abortion—lets not kick that can— A great idea to run a war hero! (McCain wasn’t a war hero—he was a war victim—but not a hero) This thought is Ok with me. Is he a conservative? Who ever Mitt picts must be conservative!
Obama has completely screwed the pouch with Iraq and Afghanistan, and so people don’t want to think about Iraq and Afghanistan - they just want them to go away.
Putting Petreus on the ticket just screams Iraq and Afghanistan - in my judgment, that will just turn people off, if not overtly, at least subliminally.
Preference: Allen West.
So we get GW Romney and a conservative, still the socialists in the republican party will turn us more socialist/fascist while we yell hooray we a have a conservative VP, let me send them my money ..........
Damn it is true, just like Jefferson said, “A people get the leaders they deserve”, so if we change the people we will get better leaders, the system is so corrupt it isn’t funny. We have members on the court who don’t even belive in our contitution,
I agree—It just feels like war is on the horizon—its like 1936 or something. And I don’t mean a little war like we have going on but WW III—a war we could lose. We could all end up slaves to Chinese masters—talk about 1% people? No net, no food, no freedom. President’s appointed out of Peking—all children forced to learn Mao’s little red book and speak Chinese! Shootings each day of any who refuses to labor for pennies a day. Yes, it may well come to that. Maybe then a General might not be a bad idea.
“As my grandfather said of Eisenhower, Great general, mediocre president.”
Don’t take it personal, but your grandfather was wrong on this one - or let’s say half wrong - about the medicore president part.
Ike will never rate as one of the greats but he deserves better than the medicore catagory. If for no other reason than creating the interstate highway system. I will agree that he wasn’t a high profile president who felt a need to be out front in the news every single day. But, you know what? I don’t need nor want this from my POTUS. I give you Mr. Obama as my best example....
I believe he was against enhanced interrogation, choosing army field manual instead. Also, the one who advocated “winning hearts and minds” of the enemy.
No thanks. Condi’s no great conservative either.
Not interested in a globalist, internationalist, new world order, type.
How about Dick Cheney, since he has a new heart?
Actually my Date of Rank goes back to Eisenhower and I still LIKE IKE..( I retired from the military in December of 2005.
The VP would matter to me IF we have a legitimate Conservative nominee if we end up with Romney the VP won’t matter to me, I didn’t vote for McCain because of Palin but I’m glad she was on the ticket.
Who is that?
Anyone but Condi Rice!
>”Putting Petreus on the ticket just screams Iraq and Afghanistan - in my judgment, that will just turn people off, if not overtly, at least subliminally.”<
That was my first response. Besides there’s doubt that he’s really a conservative. As Dr. Sivana points out, many generals tend to be big government types. Authoritarianism in the military may be needed to win wars, but that’s not what we want for the country as a whole.
Despite the last name, IMO, Jeb Bush would be the best pick for VP.
1. More than any other candidate, he’s absolutely ready to take over should the Pres. be incapacitated.
2. He was an excellent Governor.
3. His wife’s Hispanic and he speaks Spanish. The GOP needs as much of the Hispanic vote as we can get.
In his superior internationalism, he places shira law above the rights of Americans under constitution. He’s in Bam’s administration because he places Islam over Americans. No thanks. He’s withered under political correctness.
The GOP needs to worry about winning the white vote overwhelmingly. I have no interest in pandering. They have already put the entire South at risk by nominating a liberal Massachuesettes mormon. They better damn well make sure they can still get enough white men to the polls to offset the black vote because you know they are showing up.
Pres...Maybe
Help for Romney...Not a chance!
Patraeus ain’t no Sarah Palin!
Like I said, I see Romney picking a RINO for VP, and then, I listed some RINO possibilities! I don’t see Romney picking a full fledged conservative as his VP, but I do hope that I’m wrong about this. It, probably, doesn’t really matter, because I don’t see Romney winning this November, despite all of Obama’s problems.
