Man Beaten By Mob, In Critical Condition (one of them said "Now thats justice for Trayvon.")

MOBILE, Alabama -- Mobile police need your help to catch a mob that beat Matthew Owens so badly that he's in critical condition.

According to police, Owens fussed at some kids playing basketball in the middle of Delmar Drive about 8:30 Saturday night. They say the kids left and a group of adults returned, armed with everything but the kitchen sink.

Police tell News 5 the suspects used chairs, pipes and paint cans to beat Owens.

Owens' sister, Ashley Parker, saw the attack. "It was the scariest thing I have ever witnessed." Parker says 20 people, all African American, attacked her brother on the front porch of his home, using "brass buckles, paint cans and anything they could get their hands on."

Police will only say "multiple people" are involved.

What Parker says happened next could make the fallout from the brutal beating even worse. As the attackers walked away, leaving Owen bleeding on the ground, Parker says one of them said "Now thats justice for Trayvon."

In the US military, only 10% of personnel have jobs involving actual fighting. The other 90% are occupied with providing food, shelter, transport, supply, training, pay, etc for the trigger-pullers. Yet if somebody tried talking to you about making a distinction that the 90% were "moderate" military while the trigger-pullers were "extremist" military, you would probably look at him like he's crazy or stupid.

Don't assume that basic attitudes were different before. It was probably just that some people felt it unwise to let people who were not of their group know how they really felt.

I have gradually come to understand that. During Rev Wright I spoke about this with my one of my son's closest friends (black) who he's known since grade school and he educated me. Afterwards he said he had a choice at some point..and he decided to leave the "hood" behind..but fully understood how seductive and easy and simple it would have been to stay. He's confused too which is no consolation- but it's illustrative.

They control their own destiny. They can either behave like civilized human beings and be accepted into society, or they can behave like rabid animals running in packs and be eliminated.

I’m struck again by the CHOICE we make to be American- or make NOT to be.

Whatever our family origins it has always taken a few generations for “tribes” to become assimilated into the glorious mix that is distinctly AMERICAN. “Diversity” was a part of us whereas now it’s the thing to be valued above us, above being American. Making that choice is our undoing- the thread that binds us is unraveling into separateness. I’m homesick.

So ... where the (blank) is Eric 'My People' Holder and his DOJ civil rights investigation? Where are the Rev's Al and Jesse and their protests for 'justice'? And where the flock is OBAMA! Would 'his son' look like Matthew Owens?

Dammit to hell. If these ghetto rats want a Race War then bring it on homeboy, enough is enough. Just keep in mind who has most of the firearms and knows how to properly aim them -- ammo is a precious thing in a firefight. And that when push comes to shove 'your homies' in DC won't be there to protect you.

I'm going to guess that the little darlings playing basketball were cursing and screaming at each other at the top of their lungs, and probably engaging in underage drinking, and felt disrespected when the guy asked them to tone it down.

My maternal grandmother was from an active abolitionist family. Still have her copy of UNCLE TOM.

My parents worked hard to make sure we were not prejudice. Dad had worked on research for a case against the Klan when he clerked in the federal system and they never forgot.
He was the lawyer in town that people of color contacted when they wanted legal representation, often going to their homes so they weren't seen going into a lawyers office.

Our small above ground pool was opened when the city pool refused to allow kids to swim while visiting our community.

When BO was elected we were discussing him being “the first black president” and dad said he would also be the last. Not because of the American people, but because of Obama’s basic foundation. His presidency will humiliate so many when he is exposed that any progress our families have made toward equality and acceptance will be destroyed.

The loss for your family and for so many others of all colors is poignant- the undoing of decades of evil bigotry and hatred was slow but steady. It would appear there were always some on both sides that never really wanted the fear and hate to dissipate. I don’t understand why this story isn’t on the front page on here. Everytime Treyvon is mentioned in an article its breaking news. I fell this deserves at least the same attention, especially on here.
