Rubio endorses Romney, saying he's 'earned' it

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., endorsed Mitt Romney for president Wednesday night on Fox News' "Hannity," saying Romney offers "a very clear alternative" to President Obama's vision for the future of the country.

Rubio, a young, first-termer who has been discussed as a possible vice presidential candidate, criticized talk of a fight for the Republican nomination on the convention floor, a possibility that is keeping alive the campaigns of Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich.

"I think that's a recipe for delivering four more years of Barack Obama," Rubio told Fox News' Sean Hannity.

Romney has "earned this nomination," Rubio said, though he again shot down questions about whether he would accept any offers of a spot on the ticket.

That’s a record the Republican primary voters care about. If he’s the nominee, he’s overcome that record. It won’t be a problem with independents in the general and Republicans will have to decide whether 4 more of Obama is worse than Romney.

I’m certainly not going to call Marco Rubio a RINO. The Heritage Foundation’s Action Scorecard has Rubio at a 90% rating for his record of conservative legislation, which is one of the highest scores among all senators. No question, the GOP establishment has organized a rallying cry around every influential conservative member in Washington over the past couple of weeks by begging them to publicly endorse Romney “for the sake of party unity” to get conservative voters to coalesce behind him, or else they believe he will be an increasingly damaged candidate the longer the race goes on.

Nonetheless, I continue to become increasingly frustrated and more resentful at this pathetic excuse for a Republican party and it just goes to show we still have a LONG way to go to get rid of the GOP establishment.

I happened to watch Hannity tonight and saw Rubio’s performance and announcement. He went against Newt in favor of Romney in FL over some radio or TV ad’s wording with which Rubio took issue, so his endorsement came as no surprise to me.

A brokered convention is too messy for Rubio. Boo-Hoo.
Newt’s out of money and that’s the real crying shame.

Rubio’s endorsement is the one Romney has been waiting for. Not he has it.

Romney-Rubio 2012. He and the GOP-E think those two will be the uniting winner. Maybe so for a whole lot of voters.

ONTO TAMPA! NO ROMNEY!

If it’s close—and it no doubt will be—that’s a pretty sad commentary on the electorate that they would send this absolute nightmare back up there.

Do you think Obama will give up if it is struck down? If not, what makes you think Romney would either. It boggles the mind, that the guy who came up with one of the worst policies in the history of bad policies, is somehow okay, just because one small piece of the policy may be declared unconstitutional on a Federal level. Romney still thinks it’s a good idea and that’s why he will never get my vote or one penny of my money. At least voluntarily.

Rubio was the RINO backup candidate in Florida.

The GOP-E wanted the Senate seat but knew Charlie Crist had a secret life that the Democrats would have made public if he were the Republican candidate.

So they went to Rubio and pushed Charlie out.

So, Mr. Rubio wishes to disenfranchise the Repub primary voters yet to cast their ballot.

I thought Rubio was a Tea Party guy ... guess not.

In many ways, “RINO Republicanism” is its own political party, and this creates many ongoing problems with conservatism and with conservative Republicans. “Establishment Republicanism”, “Libertarian Republicanism”, and “Elitist Republicanism” deepens the political fissures even more with conservatives and with conservative Republicans. What will be the definitive answer to the long-term existence of U.S. conservatism?

How old do you have to be to be strapped down to a roof for a 12 hour drive and who is doing this to our senior citizens?

Not Tea Party, is he?

Nope. Two ineligible Mormons unite — rather than be honest.

Everybody was a Tea Party guy when they thought it got them votes. As soon as they hit DC, though, they either reveal their true colors (ala Scott Brown) or “modify” their positions, ala Rubio.

Also, Rubio was brought up as a Mormon, although I believe he now goes to some kind of non-denominational church, so this probably factored into it too.

He really sabotaged Gingrich with Hispanics here and has always clearly favored Romney, so I’m not surprised.

Not going to go after Rubio as this was no surprise and in his best personal interest. He indirectly endorsed Romney in the 2 weeks leading up to the Florida primary by making headlines attacking Gingrich everyday. I don’t hate Rubio. He is becoming a part of the establishment with this move (it is part of the process) but he is not a RINO at this point. I am still not voting for Romney.

You’re right, and as for BHO disregarding Congress, the courts, Constitution, etc., we ain’t seen NUTHIN’ yet if we hand him a second term. More SC justices, more commie (or Muslim) Czars, more even scarier Executive Orders, deadly foreign policy and things we haven’t even imagined yet.
You don't have to imagine. You just have to pay attention. He says it all out loud. Like his plan to have us stand down from the world stage as a nuclear power, give up ALL our weapons, and cede all such authority to the Soviets. (Yes, the Soviets. That's exactly what Putin is. A KGB Soviet dictator.)

“In many ways, “RINO Republicanism” is its own political party, and this creates many ongoing problems with conservatism and with conservative Republicans.”

Perhaps, since it has been 32 years since we have nominated one of our own in this process and all of the disappointments and betrayals at the lower levels since then, maybe we are not republicans and the party has left us. I’m thinking 3rd party from here on out. Neither the republican party nor the democrat party come close to representing me and frankly, the results have been pretty comparable. If you step away from the kitchen table wedge issues, Obama has been worse than Bush, but Clinton was better than Bush (both of them). So really, since Reagan, both major parties have run this country to ground with neither party really being any better in charge.

I will not vote for Romney, even if he is the nominee. By voting for the Republican establishment candidate, it only encourages them to nominate someone even more liberal the next time. At some point, this trend has to stop, or we will end up with someone worse than Obama as the Republican nominee. Voting for Romney might be good tactics, but it is horrible strategy.

I have said before that the biggest enemies of social conservaatives are liberal Republicans. In a contest between Obama and Romney, social conservatives have no one to vote for.

Romney is a nonstarter. Whoever endorses him permanently maims their own political careers.

Looks like the surging Rick Santorum is scaring Mitt Romney's GOP establishment RINOs.

So they are calling out the big guns—they want their McCain and Dole no matter what!!!

This will definitely NOT enhance the senator's conservative resume.

At least you have the character to admit you prefer Mitt to Rick when you criticize Rick.

Santorum has received the lion's share of conservative votes so far so with that in mind I will join those many conservatives and say you are wrong. Rick Santorum has more conservative bones in his pinky toe than Mitt Romney has in his whole body and would stomp Obama like he was a lit cigarette on a pile of newspapers.

Still though the “it’s his turn” mantra is all hundreds of thousands of Republican primary voters seem to know. They lack knowledge of the process.

Rick Santorum is often attacked here and by other conservatives often, it’s mind boggling.

Living near his hometown, I will tell you that I don’t have a good feeling about Rick being able to carry PA in our primary. He was trashed for the Specter thing, even though Toomey is now being criticized by conservatives, too.

What confuses and worries me the MOST is seeing our side continually trashing any candidate on our side. There is absolutely no consensus on a candidate, but we seem to want to try to find the ‘perfect’ non-existent conservative.

Rubio was very beloved until this. Now that he’s endorsed Romney, he’s being called a rino.

I really hope that we ALL see the danger of another 4 years of Obama.
